--Background-- My wife has always moaned that she could never get onto the family PC as it was always being used by either my kids or myself. After doing a bit of research, she convinced me to buy her the Acer Aspire One netbook which she would use for web browsing and writing simple documents. I was a bit sceptical of the device, after all, to me it was just a cheap laptop. But, alas, she won and off I went to Currys armed with my credit card to begrudingly buy her one. --In the box-- The box in which the Aspire comes is very small. You'd be able to fit it under your arm and carry it no ... more

Advantages Advantages good price, small and compact

Disadvantages Disadvantages no disk drive built in.

I only recently got this product, but so far i have found it a really good quality netbook. I am a student so for me it is important to have a laptop which is samll enough and light enough to carry around to lectures and seminars, and this one is a first class netbook. It is made by Acer, a well known brand. It has an 8.9" colour crystal brite LCD screen, 512mb mamory, and 8gb flash hard drive, and runs on Linux lite operating systems. It also has a built in card reader, and a built in webcam. It comes in a variety of colours (i have the blue one), and retails for around £199-250 depending on ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, reliable, easy to use, portable, beautiful, cheap, large memory, good customer service.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow, hard to get used to "keyboard", no extra features, maybe too small, too dark.

Okay so this computer (which i am writing on now) is not the largest of products. It doesn't really cope with the amount of tabs i have open in my "Opera" web browser either. But what i do know is that it becomes one of the easiest things to use since UN-sliced bread. When you turn it on it doesn't make a fancy noise like all Vista/Windows 7 systems do, as it runs on the Original Master "Windows XP" which works a treat. It is simple yet elegant and can cope with every day things like Microsoft Office, windows media/movie maker and a bunch of other relatively "cool" programs. However, these are ... more

Advantages Advantages Price - Quick - Great screen - Big keyboard

Disadvantages Disadvantages Battery life - Clumsy mouse keys

Many people reading this may have already had a look at the Asus eee PC. Although it's a little unfair to draw comparisons, it's difficult not to, as the Aspire One probably wouldn't even be here if Asus hadn't started the ball rolling. The Aspire is a very good looking little laptop, and amazingly compact. It's about half the size of a standard laptop. With an 8.9" screen, it's easy to think you'll be straining your eyes, but it's just not so! The screen is a dream to look at, with vibrant colours and absolute clarity. I'm not suggesting you should watch all your Hollywood blockbusters on it ... more
