Acer is a multinational information technology and electronics corporation. Its products include desktop and laptop PCs, tablet computers, servers, storage devices, displays, smartphones, peripherals and e-business services, etc. headquartered in Taiwan Acer is the fourth largest PC maker in the world. The one I’m writing about is a netbook made by Acer, given the full name, Acer Aspire One D255.
Packaging:Acer Aspire One D255 is packed in a small recycled box and easy to open. There is a picture of the netbook on the front box. Inside the box there are a netbook, a charger and a quick start guide. The netbook has 5 options of colours: black, red, pink, green and blue.
Main Technical Details and Features:Screen size: 10.1" LED LCD (1024x600).
Weight: 1.25kg.
Battery: 6-cell Li-ion battery
Battery life: 8 hours
Product Features: Intel® Atom™ Processor N450 (1.66GHz, 512KB cache), 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 2-in-1 card reader, Windows 7® Starter 32-bit.
In the UK you can buy Acer Aspire One D255 from many retailers including Amazon, PC World, Currys, just to name a few. You will find prices vary considerably. As a guide the current price is £349 at Amazon UK website.
My experience:I bought my Acer Aspire One D255 on December 2010 for my Caribbean holiday in Samana and I paid £229. Now I have been using the netbook for one and half years and it is my third Acer product. However I’m not satisfied with the performance of Acer Aspire One D255.
What I like:My first impression of this machine is that it is well made. It looks quite attractive with the red body. The screen is not big but you don’t feel cramped. The keyboard is well designed and very responsive. I don’t feel tired even I type for long time. It’s just 1.25 kg, so I can take it easily go around. The wireless connection works very well too. Acer Aspire One D255 has a webcam so I can keep in vision touch with my friends and families when I travel abroad.
What I dislike:First, the battery life is not last for 8 hours. I suppose it is only for 5 or 6 hours. Second, I listen to BBC news on it and I feel the sound is terrible. Last but not least there seems something wrong with the touch pad. Every time I use the touch pad the machine shuts down without any problem. When I use my Logitech wireless mouse this kind of things rarely happens.
Conclusion:All in all I’m not very satisfied with my Acer Aspire One D255 and would not recommend it to anyone who wants a high quality netbook at a reasonable price.
