Advantages: Large screen Disadvantages: Dies regularly
...When I moved to a smaller house I decided to buy a laptop because there really was not room for my pc.
This seemed a good deal at the time, nearly 3 years ago. I paid a total of £600 including a 3 year guarantee.
Three years later it has failed four times, each time it was returned to Acer and took at least 2 weeks to be returned. They replaced the motherboard every time.
The last time was a month ago, it came back with the battery dead and a diagnostic cd left in the drive.
I have to say that when it was working it was fine and the large 15.4" screen is great.
Unfortunately my idea of using it as a replacement pc did not work out due to the impossibility of playing any game needing good graphics due to the integrated graphics chip.
The appearance is quite good (from a distance) and when I saw in on the net I thought it was metal...

Other than the word "Acer" I bet the newbie buyer hasn't got a clue what the rest of the above means. In fact trudging round Currys, Comet and PC World looking for a laptop, the descriptions may as well have been in ancient Greek. The fact is that, other than the price, there is almost no understandable information available from manufacturers and retailers. Shop assistants, if and when found, seem to drift into the same meaningless drivel.
So why did a non-techy choose the Acer. Well because it looked good, was on budget and the man in Comet was friendly and it came with his recommendation.
At home the Acer started first time and Windows Vista was welcoming and straight forward to set up. In fact we expected to have to load discs but this has now been done away with. In fact...
