Acer battery charger - car

Advantages: Big screen, Light
Disadvantages: Motherboard, battery, and processor will fail. Battery life is low, Keys fall off easy, slow.

...Why a one star? I have had my Acer Aspire 5103WLMi for a year and 3 months now, within a year of owning my laptop several things had gone wrong. 4 of my keyboard keys had fallen off, 3 more were close to it, the built in mouse is almost broke, my charger died, (Had to buy a £20 replacement.) My battery holds no charge what so ever, (My charger has to be plugged in all the time for my laptop to work.) My processor randomly changes speed and my laptop is slow and lags during anything. It also freezes when it does an automatic disk check. Advantages: Cheap and does everything I need it to.

...I bought this Acer laptop from Comet in Perth. It was exactly what I was looking for at the time, a cheap laptop that I could use between my home and my girlfriend's in Dundee. I have had one or two problems with it, but Acer have a good support service that has sorted these out fairly quickly. The first problem was the battery charger stopped recharging the battery. According to Acer this is a common problem and they sent a new box out and that sorted the problem out once it arrived a few days later and I started using the new charger. The second problem also involved the battery charging and initially I was all set to cause havoc and get my money back. However, Acer asked if I would send the laptop back and arranged to get it collected from my house. I did have to pack the laptop up and make sure it wouldn't be damaged intransit... Read review

Advantages: Price and specs good for a budget laptop
Disadvantages: hopeless battery

...'t need to upgrade this as hardly anyone needs more than 1Gb of RAM. The screen is very crisp and bright, keyboard keys feel nice and secure and the mouse has a good feel As its budget dont expect miracles from this machine, the processor although fast enough for todays stuff, will be old hat in 6 months time and struggle with gaming applications etc. A BIG BIG con of this unit is the awful battery life. Acer use software to very easily and quickly change processor speed, monitor brightness and other features to prolongue battery usage. (which is very useful) However you have to set theses values so low, no screen brightness, lowest CPU speed, turn off LAN and or WLAN, to get 2 hours out of it, which is useless. Make no mistake this is a 'desktop laptop' and not one to use on the move, if you do want it to take around with you I strongly... Read review
