I have been searching for a good digital camera within my price range for quite some time. Until one day, i came across the Acer CR-8530 whilst browsing the net. At first i had doubts about the brand 'Acer' because i had never heard of it before. However, this camera had an extremely high resolution of 8 mega-pixels and it costed less than £200!! At the time i was very desperate for a camera as i needed it for my best friend's wedding. As i was waiting for the delivery of my new camera, i decided to do some research on Acer. It appeared that they had many other products which can compete with famous brands such as Sony, Samsung and Sharp. The next day, my camera arrived. I opened the packaging and saw the box of the camera. It was an attractive packaging which made the camera look expensive and professional. I opened the box and i was very surprised with i had just purchased. Firstly the camera was much smaller than i had thought it would be, as i held it, it felt compact and solid. Its design looked stylish and modern. I switched it on and was greeted with an 'Acer' logo. The screen was bright and clear, i was also surprised with the size of the 2.5in TFT screen. The lens came out from the front of the camera, I wasn't very impressed with the length of the scope as it is quite long and makes the camera look less attractive than it is with the scope in. I took a picture of my friend and i was very satisfied with the quality. As i tinkered with the cameras settings i found out that it had a lot of options on how you want to take the picture. This is very useful for professional photographers. Next i tried out many of the camera features such as video recording which was high quality and ran at 30 frames per second, however it had some drawbacks. Firstly, the microphone was very unsensitive and could hardly record any sound apart from very close range sound. Secondly, only the optical zoom can be used when filming and during filming you cannot change the zoom which it is set on. Another negative drawback on this camera is that it can heat up pretty quickly during use. This makes handling the camera quite uncomfortable. The reason for this is the high energy consumption which leads to the next drawback of this camera. Despite the camera having a high capacity battery, its energy consumption is somewhat high and after a few hours of usage, the battery was completely drained. However, these disadvantages are small compared to its great positive features. On the positive side, this camera has a very bright flash which can take a picture in total darkness and the photo output was bright and clear. One of the best features of this camera has is the zooming combined with auto-focus. The camera has a 3x optical zoom and a 5.1x digital zoom. I pointed my camera outside the window and put it on full zoom, the image on the screen was quite blurry however after it focused itself, it became more clear. I snapped the picture and looked at the photo. I noticed that as the picture has been taken, it looked even more clear as if i took the picture close-up. This is very useful for taking long ranged photos and spying =). Other features include: - Red eye reduction - WAV voice capture to be attached to still images - Synchronising with PC - 5cm macro mode - Expandable memory through SD card
Overall this is a great camera with many advantages and little disadvantages which is definitely worth its great price and i would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for either a low budget camera or one of the best digital cameras on the market. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advantages: Lightweight good images Disadvantages: None so far
...I have not owned my Acer CR-8530 for long. A matter of a couple of days, in fact, but my initial impressions are very favourable.
Despite being an 8 mega pixel digital camera, it is small and lightweight. I paid about £200 for the camera, but it was bought through a special deal to encourage workers to buy computer equipment for their home use, but to buy them through work, with the money taken out of your salary every month. We bought a new Acer ... ...Despite being lightweight, the Acer CR-8530 has a very sturdy feel to it. Unlike some of the newer digital cameras, the Acer CR-8530 actually looks like a camera, meaning that it is relatively easy to hold and to use. Which is more than can be said for some of the new digital cameras, sad to say.
It also uses a Lithium battery which is handy. I was stung with the last digital camera I bought, as it uses ordinary non-rechargeable batteries and eats ...

...that neither the retailer , Acer UK or Acer Global have responded to any online communication with regard to spare or replacement batteries for this camera. I and others have trawled the WWW and cannot find one anywhere. What a shame.
I would love to have been able to give this camera a 5 star rating but sadly I can only give it 1 star due to the battery situation and lack of customer support..
I am beginning to wonder if lots of people out there ... ...AT LAST! If you hurry you may be able to buy a replacement/spare battery from an eBay seller in Germany. I have one one the way which I have been assured will fit.It is a 3.7v ,1200 mAh. Good luck!
Just search on eBay for Acer 8530 but be quick! ...
