I received this laptop as a birthday gift to help with school 2 years ago, however being a keen gamer, I was quick to try out some of the latest video games to test out how far I could push the laptop... of course laptops aren't generally for gaming usage but the Ferrari 4000 certainly has the capability to play games on fair graphical settings.
Despite blasting hot air out of the fan on the left when you start running anything too demanding, you can use powerplay functions (with the ATI mobility video vard) to reduce performance and increase battery life, which also cools the fan down. This of course is useful for my main need was with school work and therefore won't always have a plug nearby. Playing video games causes the laptop to get very hot after a while, therefore if you intend to run demanding applications I recommend purchasing a cooling tray to put beneath the laptop.
Having a widescreen display means that you can easily have a split screen with two different documents on either side, this proved useful for using websites/encarta for information without having to constantly use the alt and tab keys to flick between windows.
Since much of my work was spread across various memory sticks and flash drives, the laptops SD card slot and four USB slots are very useful.
Since this is a fairly large laptop, it is quite heavy, but the laptop certainly looks very nice from all angles, the carbon fibre lid looks spectacular and there is a well designed red stripe along the sides.
I have used the laptop for virtually everything, from word processing, playing video games, photoshop, Sony Vegas video editing as well as using it in conjunction with musical instruments, typical Mac functions, but this laptop is perfect for me.
The only downside to the laptop would be the price, as well as the mouse, I dont get on with wireless mice therefore I quickly replaced it with another. Although I am unsure as to the price of the laptop 2 years ago, the current price from a search appears to be in the £800-£1000 range.
Relating to my specific ratings: The laptop is comfortable to use however it is quite heavy so I only give it satisfactory for portablity.
The laptop has a carbon fibre lid which is vulnerable to scratches, I am generally as careful as I can be with electrical equipment so I haven't tested it for this factor (yet).
I do however advise that potential buyers look at the Ferrari 1000 and Ferrari 5000 models, the 1000 is the smaller version of the 4000 and the 5000 is the replacement of the 4000. ---------------------------------------- Some Technical Specifications: AMD Turion 64 Processor ATI Mobility Radeon x700 128mb 1GB Ram 15.4" screen 45gb x 2 hard drive (90gb)

A solid good well designed laptop. A bit pricey, but with a great tft display. All the features one can ask, and a bit of some, not many ask anymore (infrared). Only minus is the 333MHz DDR RAM, when the chipset supports 400MHz RAM. No dual channel support because of the processor socket. Extremely well designed heat distribution. This laptop is BEAUTIFUL to look at! Good connectivity, and the keyboiard is tangible. A top of the line product. Oh yeah, the Included Bluetooth mouse is excellent, if you use it with a left hand. The laser "eye" is then on the correct side, when considering the natural trajectory, when the wrist turns on it´s pivot. My wife likes it.

Advantages: good all singing and dancing laptop Disadvantages: supplied bluetooth mouse not good
This my first laptop computer, so my comments are judgements based on several years of full size desktops. Start-up, causeds no problems, and my one fear of noise from fans cooling a 2Mz processor and a fairly fast graphics card have not materialised.. The main noise is funny sounds coming from the DVD unit, which sounds as if it needs oiling. I bought this laptop for three operational reasons, 1 graphics work, 2, word processing and 3 gaming. On ... ...specification model, as I suspect I would have had speed problems with the 1.6Mz model. The supplied blue tooth mouse is useless and I use an old USB mouse. A final point worth mentioning, is the very strong construction of the screen housing/lid, the best I have seen, and was a factor in the purchasing decision. ...

Advantages: most applications work, good looks, and nice design Disadvantages: Gets very hot, shuts down suddenly when hot,
Its overall performance is not as good as I expected. This product was considered to be better than what it actually is. Ferrari 4000 has a good design and a very good cover with the original ferrari logo which looks really nice. But this Laptop gets hot easily with the use of some heavy applications such as games. Whenever i play a video on real player it gets hot and then suddenly goes off. This is the thing which i really hate about this model. ...
