Well, i bought this since i needed it for my job (i'm pretty useless at directions), got it off of eBay for a tad under £170, this was about 3 months ago.

The first thing i noticed when picking it up was that it was very light, although it still felt very robust and capable of dealing with what is required! Did as per the instructions and charged it up fully. This is my first niggle. The data cable has to be plugged into the PDA, and directly into the socket of this the charger plugs in. Means that when you are charging you have a trailing piece of wire around. Would it have really cost much more to have separate charger/data cable?

Turned it on a went through all of the setting up windows things, and Destinator (The SatNav software) started installing since it was already on the card. This took a maximum of 2 minutes from start to end, quite impressive i thought.

Now for its first road test. Got the car mount out, this is incredibly strong! Has only fallen off the windscreen once and that was only because i rushed to fit it on. It picked up a fix surprisingly quickly! Within about 30 seconds, although it has taken up to 5 minutes in very built up areas.

Very quick at destinating the route, and gets you there as planned.

Now, there are numerous downsides to this piece of kit. If you plug the car charger in before the PDA is switched on, then switch it on, you have to go through the process of setting up windows, installing destinator again...

Every now and again, the PDA just freezes as well. Now possibly the most irritating time was when i ended up going 30 miles too far on the M6!! Hadn't noticed that it had stopped so just presumed i had to carry on. The power button etc. will not respond either, so the only way is a hard reset, again meaning windows and destinator have to be configured/installed.

Compared to a tom tom, the response time is quite slow, particularly when changing directions, ie a roundabout. You can be 200 yards from the roundabout and the display still shows you are on it, but still, good enough for me!

Also, the voice announcements, when you are 2 miles from a roundabout it says 3 miles. Sure that can be fixed with a software update though.

Another thing that needs fixing is the speed limits, it presumes motoroway are 60mph, and every other road is 20mph. Very annoying if you have the speed alert on! Due to this the ETA is very inaccurate as well, you can usually knock 10 mins off a 50 minute journey. And the roundabouts go the wrong way round. But then it was probably designed more with europe in mind, as said though, a software update would probably fix that.

As for directing you, i had this in the car with my bosses Tomtom, and destinator gives a far quicker route generally, and often more direct, so impressed on that aspect.

Good side is that it is flat, so much easier to carry around, better than the 'TV Shape' of the tomtom.

Overall a good piece of kit if you are on a budget, but if you have the money i would go for something a little more reliable!

I'm looking into getting something like this next week so I found your review really interesting. I don't think the product is for me though. Basically I'm only just learning to drive and I can't concentrate on directions as well as driving yet - so am looking for something really reliable to help me. Thanks for the info. x
