Advantages: cheap..if it had a warranty, portable Disadvantages: Warranty not honoured, bulbs blow in rapid succession
...The unit itself has a fatal flaw - its eats bulbs for breakfast !
But even more sinister is Acer's blatant non-honouring of any of the 2 year warranty that remains on the unit. After the 1st unit was replaced in the first week, almost 2 years of faithful service mine then ate 3 $230 bulbs in a month ! The first I paid for the 2nd (which died a week or so later), was covered under warranty, (which then died a few DAYS later) the third Acer tried to extrort ANOTHER $230 out of me.
I gave up and got a Panasonic PT-AX100U with 5 years warranty for $3000 which is BRILLIANT. Too bad Acer - you've had enough of my cash.
Their solution to my problems ? I could pay a 2nd amount of $234.00 for a third bulb or go to the ACCC. Nice work...no thanks.
The unit's performance whilst working was quite good but it's unmerchantable nature makes...

Advantages: fast, reliable, baisc, and powersaving Disadvantages: split hardrive, only 40GB hard drive
...Well 1st took this laptop as a cheap bargin. easy and basic to use however came minus the windows programes. However the software included is the basic and all you need to get going. With windows XP loaded it runs to its full potential. Having a 40GB hardrive split in 2 it tricked me as i thought i had ran out of room however had anohte r20 GB empty!. Comes with a dvd-rw excelent for burning. I got mine in the sales almsot a year ago (2006) for about £ 400 now it is reduced in price ready for Windows Vista. This is because unfortunatly this laptop will not take the latest Windows upgrade however runs jsut as well on the XP,. Ready set up easy installation process of windows, and the acer software if brilliantly simple. Able to control the e -recovery and the power management....

Advantages: lightweight ,does the job Disadvantages: poor build quality
...My two month old Acer n30 just died sat on my desk in it's proporta armoured case (this is a nice case). I returned it to expansys who returned it to Acer they said the reset button that is well recessed inside the case was damaged and therefore the warranty was void. This is nonsense.
This does not come with a cradle which is a great minus point, the cable is very flimsy and the metal contacts were bending before the thing died on me. I will say it ran the software I needed it to run although this was not very demanding. The machine is light weight and slim
So beware Acer n30s are liable to self destruct, or perhaps it is the build quality
my experience of reliability really does overshadow any plus points I can make...
