The Travel Mate 2413LCi is part of the 2410 series and is an extremely affordable laptop ideal for small business or personal use. It is an Intel Celeron M processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz and 256 MB RAM. Although this RAM is low the Travelmate 2413LCi has a maximum RAM capacity of 2048 MB giving you plenty of opportunity to increase the performance of your laptop to suit your individual needs.
The hard drive capacity of this model is 40GB which is ample space for installing software, games and managing files. As a Newly Qualified teacher this laptop has enabled me to keep all of my planning, assessments and work examples stored safely and provide a great filing system for my ever increasing paper work, which no longer clogs up my desk and drawers. I don't know how I ever coped without it and do not understand why, at such an affordable price, all professionals do not invest in this time saving, if not life saving laptop.
Like most PC's and laptops new to the market this laptop does not have a floppy disc drive. Although this is difficult for businesses or individuals who have discs from previous years which they would need access to, the CDRW + DVD Combo built into the laptop provides a much more reliable, up to date, service.
The graphics memory size on this model is 64 MB which is ideal for the average person, however not suitable for playing high resolution games. It's 15 " screen and 1024 x 768 pixels resolution provides a basic but high quality image for most users. For professionals wishing to use their laptop for graphic design however, this laptop is not for you.
The operating system, like most computers these days, is Windows XP Home Edition and Acer throw in a bundle of other software such as Power DVD, NTI CD-Maker, Adobe Acrobat reader etc. One of the most wonderful things about this company is that it does not overwhelm you with loads of cheap, free, useless software. A system recovery CD is provided, should you have any problems with your system or download any nasty viruses when surfing the net.
This model has no built in microphone, card reader, Infrared or Bluetooth facilities however it does have 4 USB ports for any hardware you may wish to use. The battery life of this laptop is a maximum of 2 hours and takes between 2.5 hours (turned off) and 3.5 hours (in use) to recharge. In my experience this is more than enough but if you travel long distances and require a laptop that will allow you to pass that time productively you may need a model with a longer lasting battery.
For my purposes this laptop is perfect, and as a first laptop I would recommend it to everyone. The keyboard is sensitive and compact, whilst the mouse pad is sizable and accurate. The light weight of the laptop and slim frame makes it easy to carry around and does not leave my back aching at the end of a long day. One of the only drawbacks to this laptop is that the speakers are not very loud, but unless you are planning to use the laptop for presentations to large audiences this isn't a huge problem.

I have owned an Acer Travelmate 2413LCi for 14 months. As a very basic machine it is satisfactory, however, only having 256Mb RAM makes it a pretty slow machine to say the least. I have recently upgraded it with an additional 1Gb of RAM which has made a tremendous difference. There is one area in which the machine has displeased me, and that is that the hard drive has failed twice. The first time was during the guarantee period, which caused me to ... ...the Christmas period so in all fairness it would have been away for less time at any other time of year). The second failure was last week. I went out and purchased a replacement drive, installed it myself, and restored the system from my last saved backup. I am now hoping for stability and reliability from it. Because of the hard drive failures I cannot recommend it, but I appreciate I may have just been unlucky. ...

I for one, absolutely love the look of this acer. The bottom of the laptop just looks really cool, and the top looks ok too. One only criticism on the look, would be that the plastic at the tip of the screen is a little thick, but then again it does have more
I bought mine on ebay for £360, I needed it for university study and it's working really well for small documents like word and excel and it will also play some games well, mainly Unreal Tournament online :-)
