This is a review for the Acer Travelmate 2414WLMi. Which is very similar to the product above (1.6Ghz, 40GB HDD, 256MB RAM, WiFi, Dual Layer DVD RW etc.. 15" Screen).
We managed to buy this product for £299 in comet after having difficulty from Tesco.
-- Looks -- The laptop seems to be slimmer than others but this makes it a little wider and deeper. This has made the keyboard a little further from the front.
-- Ports, Inputs, Outputs -- The laptop has 4 USB 2.0 ports 3 on the left side and 1 on the back. The power socket is also located on the back. It has a headphone and mic socket in the front where the Wifi and Bluetooth (yes it seems to have bluetooth - but not yet tested!) lights and buttons are located (the light also acts as a button) . Also on the left is an output for an external monitor.
-- Hidden Features -- We didn't read before buying it that it has bluetooth build in, plus it has a build in mic which we have tested on a VOIP call and this seems good quality.
-- Screen -- Like I said it has a 15" screen which has a better viewing angle than most, I am able to see the screen from and angle of getting close to 180 degrees. This is impressive for a laptop screen in my opinion.
-- Speed -- I know it only has 1.6Ghz processor but it is not all about the number (1.6). I use another laptop which is 1.8 Ghz and it seems A LOT faster than this 1.6. The only reason I can think of for this is that the 1.8Ghz laltop has 512MB of RAM and the processor is a Pentium M rather than the Acer's Celeron (which are known to be a lot slower). When the laptop was first run it appeared to be slower than it is becasuse of all the programs Acer have installed on it. Once I removed some of these it started up sooner, but still not ultra fast. Internet explorer for example loads at half the speed on this as the 1.8Ghz one I mentioned above.
Once the computer is fully loaded up and not many tasks are being run, it runs smoothly and reliably. It has not yet crashed!
-- Robustness -- The laptop seems fairly robust except the thin screen, I feel that because it is so thin, that it may not be able to take a hard nock on the back of it. Other than that the computer seems fairly robust.
-- Manual -- The instruction manual is fairly basic - more like a quick start guide, but it isn't really needed anyway. WIndows XP guides you through the setup process with ease.
-- WiFi Signal -- The WiFi signal on this seems to be average, it is rarely able to 5/5 for signal, but 4/5 is fine and perfectly fast. The only reason I think it is not Brilliant is because I have used another which is able to pick up a better signal, but most Wifi seem to be of the same standard as this one.
Overall at £300 I would definately say this is worth the money and worth buying.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
You need to add your person opinions of the product and not just list what the product features are to achieve a higher rating sorry...........................Sam
