Well where to start, how about at the beginning. Back in the the heady days of Windows 95 a pentium 1 166mhz 1.5 gig HD I took the plunge and visited PC World and bought an acer desktop, being firmly rooted in the commodore camp i was reluctant to take the pc route, I took the Plunge 10 years on and now onto a sony vaio desktop (beautiful machine but thats another story). So now up to date I was made redundant after 15 years so as a treat thought I would love a laptop and took a trip to Comet, anything decent was very pricey but set my heart on the Acer, but my financial advisor, wife for short said no to the price tag of £799 so being male went off in a sulk to staples next door, of which i was glad as i set my eyes upon the 4150 at £599 and more features of the "old" model next door. Then came the del monte moment "the wife, she says yes" so happy as a sand boy strolled out drove home with new toy in tow.
Well My old acer was sturdy and very reliable, so what 9 years later did Acer have in store for me............. to my sheer delight nothing has really changed, plugged in, booted up and approx 20 minutes later is was up and running, fantastic. Thought here we go set up the wireless network, clicked on wireless connection entered my wep and off it went connected first time and very solid connection. It was lovely as it was august so into the garden being a good 50ft from my wireless connection thought maybe be intermittent, but no 3 hours of wireless connectivity and a few beers later it was a shame i had to put it on charge, so a big thumbs up for its wifi connection.
DVD playback/burner again very reliable dvd a little jerky if using the internet but musn't grumble. As for burning as yet i have had no "coasters" 100% burn rate so far, and not much drain on the battery either, so again big thumbs up.
Screen, lovely and clear so now looking to by an acer flat panel monitor....when Argos can be bothered to get any in !!!
Memory and hard drive well catered for, as I'm a keen photographer and memory tight on the camera although a half gig card installed once start shooting in raw mode things get a little tight, so again the Acer comes in handy I took it away to yorkshire.... no not like that i took the family as well, but a fortnights worth of photos would not fit on my camera so transferred to the Acer throught the built in card reader, came in very handy as my nephew was running out of memory card space so transferred his pictures too, different memory card but the acer caters for 4 different types so no problems there either.
Welll can't say much more apart from the only thing that lets it down, The case scratches very easy as i found to my horror when the cat walked over it while it was closed and left lovely scratch marks mmm wasn't pleased, but its travelled, its been bashed about even, and nothing to do with the laptop slammed it shut in a mood and thought that was a very stupid thing to do expecting to see a dead laptop or dead or half working screen but no had no detrimental affect at all Phew..
So in Summary hats off to Acer and a well constructed reliable machine ...maybe in another 10 years i will buy another one
Advantages: Light, good specs and value for money Disadvantages: keyboard flimsy and the charger messed up within a year
...fallen out. Support at Acer couldn't be bothered to reply to my e-mails regarding replacement keyboard.
Acers website is annoyingly slow at times, i did manage to find all the necessary drivers when i had to reinstall windows. Don't try to install or even run live linux cd's as it will not for some reason recognise the Dvd/cd combi and therefore not run.
The screen is also excellent. It gives a clear and crisp image.
Battery life is also poor, ...

...I hadn't really heard of Acer before. I'm glad that this was recommended to me though because I have had no problems with it at all. The only problem was a slight faulty headphone connection, but that was due to my own stupidness of standing on the cable connection. It has been really well built and has with standed all of the bumps and scrapes that come with carrying around a laptop. The only downside is getting used to the 2 hard drive system. ...

...not really aware of the Acer brand before I was going to buy this laptop, but any fears were dissolved once I had bought it. The value for money is excellent but the software installed on it was not very high spec (Mircosoft Works compared to Office). The screen is large and very good quality. There are a decent amount of connection options. Wireless internet and several USB ports.
I would definately recommend this laptop especially as other people ...

...wonders'. Things such as the Acer Emanager which was only really useful for the very beginning setting up accounts and power management all the sorts of things that you only use when first starting up your computer. To be fair to Acer this tops the same sort of equipment that microsoft gives and of course if needs be it is always possible to revert to the old microsoft way. In my opinion it is a good reliable laptop even though things started to ...
