I have used the Acer Travelmate 7510 version, for about a year now. Prefering the wider 17" screen, which this Acer has.
The unit is powered by the AMD Turion 64 processor, another personal preference towards Athlon rather than Intel. 2 gig of RAM and an 80 gig hard drive, is more than sufficient for the personal home or office user. Wireless internet connection has been very stable and runs at 8mbps on average, which is great for music or film downloads.
Windows Vista home premium is pre-installed and you do not receive a back up or restore cdr. The operating system is partitioned on the hard drive, so, in theory, you can always restore it to original factory settings - having tried this, due to a virus, I found I could not carry out this function, despite Acer telling me otherwise. The problem was easily resolved by the retailer and all was well.
Sound, nvidia Geforce graphics and ease of use are all first class. DVD re-writer works well and films look great on the super clear screen.
Battery life is not as long as they advertise, probably about an hour or so. I don't use it on the road, so that is not an important factor to me. Built in web-cam which works alongside MSN so you can chat and smile at your friends all day long or use Acer Video Conferencing. 4 USB ports, Ethernet, card reader, VGA output.
Speed, access and ease of use are all fine, with a full qwerty keyboard and built in number pad, which makes for more room when typing. Overall, a great laptop, only a virus gave it the colly wobbles, otherwise it seems pretty rock solid.
Use a good antivirus and firewall, not just relying on windows Vista to keep you safe. I am sure there are a thousand other things that go on inside, but I am not a motherboard or video graphics genius.
