The Acer Travelmate 7730 has a 17" screen so this was perfect for me. It also has a built in Wifi card, another thing on my wish list as many of the hotels I stay in have free Wifi. As I do quite a lot of travelling with my job, I decided it was about time I invested in a laptop. My desktop at home is an Acer Aspire and it was very affordable when I bought it in comparison to some other makes, having had it a good few months now and experienced no problems with it, I decided the new laptop would also be an Acer.
My budget was around £650 when I started looking about 2 months ago, and I found the Acer Travelmate in my local PC World just about on budget. It ticked all the boxes, as my new laptop would be being carried around in the boot of my car most of the time and the only real carrying of it I would have to do would be into a hotel room really, size and weight did not really matter to me. In fact quite the opposite really as I decided I would like a decent sized screen and a full size keyboard as then once I had got it on site it would be as close to my desktop as possible and much easier to use.
The Acer Travelmate 7730 has a 17" screen so this was perfect for me. It also has a built in Wifi card, another thing on my wish list as many of the hotels I stay in have free Wifi. With an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz proccessor it is not exactly the fastest laptop ever but it also has 3GB of RAM which is useful when operating multiple programs, it is also useful as the Acer Travelmate comes with the memory sapping Windows Vista pre loaded. At 250GB the harddrive is plenty big enough and there is also a 5 in 1 card reader which I find handy for putting pictures on to it from my digital camera, it also has bluetooth. It is also very nice to look at in my opinion and the keyboard and mouse pad are very nice and 'comfortable' to use.
I very rarely use this laptop on the battery, as I am normally somewhere near a plug when I use it, however on the rare occasion that I have used it on the battery, I get nearly 2 hours of charge time, which I thing is quite good for a full size laptop. There are also 4 USB ports which always come in handy as most external items seem to connect through USB at the moment.
All in all I am very happy with this laptop, I have had it 6 weeks now and did not pay the £650 at PC World, I found it online at a company called OYYY.co.uk for a little under £600 and they delivered it within 3 days. As I have already said it is not the fastest computer in the world, and is noticibly slower than my desktop, however it is more than good enough for surfing the internet and looking at and fixing photos which is what I use it for most. I often have four or five applications open and this does not seem to affect the speed at which it runs at all. The screen is brilliant, at 17" it is more than big enough for a laptop and the display quality is excellent, I have not complaints about it at all. It is fairly heavy as a result of being quite a large laptop, but as I don't carry it very far it does not bother me. I would not recommend it to someone who wants to carry it around with them a lot as I think it would soon start to hurt your shoulder, but if, like me, you want to have a full size laptop and don't intend carrying it very far I would deffinately recommend it.
