Acer as a laptop company are beginning to grow, and they are now just as well know as a lot of others, but then I first saw then in shops, my first impression, and the impression of others I asked was they seemed a bit of a cheap brand, just like netto is compared to Sainsbury's. However acer have somehow seemed to change peoples minds and even managed to change my mind. I now think of acer as a fantastic company for laptops and one I buy from. The main thing though is how cheap they have gotten over time and that’s the reason why there actually outselling dell for laptops at the moment.
Now I wouldn’t say that this laptop is stylish however it has improved quite a lot from acers older travel mate design, you can now see that they are at least trying to make somewhat of an effort in designing the laptop. One thing they didn’t used to do was to experiment with other colours and for every travel mate they did they always seem to keep the boring black colour all over their laptop. They have however managed to icorporate some silver into this design which really helps in making this laptop look a lot cooler and more modern and a lot less boring than there previous laptops did.
This isn't the fastest laptop, but its probably the average speed most people need for doing work on. It features a Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 / 1.8 Ghz processor which runs the 1gb of installed ram pretty fast. Another great thing is that this 1gb of ram can be upgraded to 4gb which would make the whole laptop run so much faster. However, it would probably be cheaper to just get a better spec laptop rather than to buy this, then upgrade it because it can be really pricy, especially if your paying somebody else to do it.
This laptop has a nice 120 gb hard drive built into it. I think this is reasonable and will be more than enough for most peoples needs, but even if you do need more space you could easily connect a portable hard drive to one of its 4 Hi-Speed USB ports. Or you could even store data onto memory cards by using its great built in 5 in 1 card reader which supports any of, SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Cards.
This laptop has a 15.4 inch TFT screen, this screen is also active matrix, this is being used by so much more laptop manufacturers nowadays as it makes the screen lighter, therefore making the laptop lighter, is makes the image quality so much better than a normal TFT screen and it also makes the response time a lot better, which makes videos look sharper, photos look sharper and game playing look better than ever before.
I would have liked to see it have a 17 inch screen, though I suppose business men are bothered about how much battery life they can get, rather than how good the video watching capabilities are. One thing I always forget to look for when buying a new laptop, is how long its battery life is. Yet this is a very important thing, the last laptop I bought only had a battery life of an hour and I didn't think anything of it. But now when I use it unplugged it only seems to manage about 45 minutes and its getting me really frustrated, so when buying a laptop remember to check its battery life, especially if you need it for journeys or if you just want something that doesn't need to be plugged in the whole time. Well there's no trouble of that with this acer, because it has a great 3 hours of battery life, which means you could take this on journeys and not worry so much about it shutting down on you when your in the middle of some important work.
This laptop could look better and it could be faster and have more storage space too, however it is quite portable and reasonably fast and its all for a great price of just about £350, so given that there’s not really much to loose if you want a good business laptop to do a bit of work on.
