The DVDromdrive is very good and fast and great for recording onto disc's but I have found that over time the processer seem's to be really struggling to keep up with more than two tasks at a time. The hard drive is plenty for me to store my information but for a lot of people you would need to upgrade this to a much larger size.
Overall I would not recommend this laptop really as if it wasn't for the insurance I took out it would have only lasted a year and when it comes to getting parts from Acer the insurance company had real problems. As for Acer customer service well I must say it is non-exsistant I had trouble getting it in under warranty and had to complain...

Advantages: Bright and clear screen, Spacious keyboard, which is fast and resposnsive, convenient and clear (sometimes drags on some laptops) mouse pad, Comes with Windows xp, Very fast with a 2.6GHZ Processor, and 512MB!! Of RAM, DVD Rom is better than my DVD Playe Disadvantages: Delicate (but which laptops arent?), Quite heavy @ around 9 pounds (nearing a stone), Only comes in the same old same old colour of metallic grey
...-------------------------
The cd drive is a CD-RW/DVDROM. This therefore means that it can read cd's (obviously), write cd's, and re-write cds on rewritable disks. More importantly it can however play DVDs.
Its Read speed is: 8x if playing a DVD, and 24x if CD
Its Write speed is: 24x
and its re-write speed is: 8x
Modem
-------------------------
Nothing to write home about. The modem on this laptop is a standard Fax/modem, ITU V.90. If you don’t know what v.90 is, its a more reliable connection, initially an upgrade from the previous 56k (meaning it can carry out the conversion of analogue signals in to digital signals, and vice versa, much quicker)
Pretty much standard I think...
Battery
-------------------------
Has a very good battery life, of about 8 hours. It is also of the lithium Ion variation, in an attempt to make the laptop lighter...
