Advantages: Dependable sound and reliability. Disadvantages: They're huge!
...This is the standard Marshall 4x12", rated at 300W. You cannot get a better looking speaker cab. The Marshall is a classic.
The standard version comes in angled (A) or straight (B) formats, which are identical except for their shapes.
The 1960A/B cabs are switchable for stereo operation (where the signal is split between the two vertical pairs of speakers), and also operate at various impedances, so you can match it perfectly to your Marshall head.
These cabs produce a large amount of bass response, due to the closed-back design. If you're using one as an extension cabinet to, say, a 1x12" combo, you will instantly recognise what a difference this makes.
The Marshall sounds fantastic, even when you're playing a relatively crap head through it. The 75W Marshall/Celestion speakers break up at just the right point, and don't sound boomy...

Advantages: Digital effects, sound quality Disadvantages: Delay function
...The Line 6 Spider is very simply the best emulation combo amp in the £400 range. It not only has a ton of on-board effects(which I will discuss later), but the sound quality that you get from this little 100W kicker is amazing. It has2x10" speakers, a footswitch input (footswitch/floorboard sold separately), and the usual inputs and sends.

It has a tape echo, flanger, delay, chorus, and many types of overdrive and distortion, all in 4 channels that featuring varying preset conditions. You can also save particular effects settings for instant recall. The cool thing about this amp is the tap button. It's a small round button that you tap twice, and the speed with which you tap it sets the delay, or the tape echo...

...for normal everyday space rock then I suggest that you keep it subtle as subtlety sometime works better.
How do you operate this wonderful piece of technology then?
Well you plug in input into the output of whatever device you are connecting it to, and the output to the input of whatever device is next in the line off attack. You then step on the box and a little red LED lights up. You the suddenly notice that there are four knobs on the thing to adjust the sound, what do they do you wonder:-
1. Manual
This works with the other settings and the further clockwise you turn it the more dramatic the effects you achieve in conjunction with the other controls.
2. Depth
The setting controls how much depth is applied to the guitar signal, and in conjunction with a distortion pedal is just fantastic.
3. Rate
This controls how fast the pedal sweeps...
