Acorn Properties, based in Jesmond, are a major letting agent for properties around the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, managing a large number of flats and houses across some of the most popular areas to rent in the region. I was a tenant of Acorn's for five years, so I feel I am now in a position to offer a detailed, long-term perspective on the company and what it is really like to be one of their clients. Way back in 2002, we originally chose to rent from Acorn for the simple reason that they were the only agency we could find that would accept us as tenants; the reason for this being that most agencies will (or at least, did at the time) rent student properties to households consisting entirely of students, and "professional" properties to people who work, but no one seemed to be prepared for tenants that were a mixture of the two. I thought you may like to hear how I was getting on, and if it lets just one person out there know you can begin to work for yourself and give the dead end job the 'heaveho' then it's worth writing this bit! You may notive I have updated my shop address as we are now Ltd. I set up a limited company on 11.11.03. Advantages: Funny show Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit of an in-joke?
has rung. Julie Walters is classic Mrs Overall, complete with pinny, varicose veins and macaroons.
Needless to say, after a few song-and-dance numbers and the trauma of Acorn Antiques becoming a coffee house, all turns out right in the end.
This is a good show and I'm looking forward to seeing it live when it goes on tour next year. There has been no casting info yet, but I do wonder if it will be the same without Julie Walters and the rest of the original cast. A lot of the fun of the show comes from them knowing their parts so well. It does show in this production where the new characters have been brought it and, although she does very well, Sally-Ann Triplett cannot really compare to Victoria Wood as Miss Bertha.
The songs (including 'Tip Top Tap' and 'Have Some Tea') are for the most part jolly affairs, but the lyrics are ...
