AcoustiFan fans have not been designed for maximum airflow performance, but rather for ultra quiet operation (although the cubic feet per minute (CFM) airflow specifications are respectable). The ultimate solution for a near-silent system is adequate airflow to maintain low system and component temperatures but without associated fan noise and vibration. These fans designed for systems where several well positioned ultra-quiet fans, each with a relatively slow RPM, will be more than adequate for cooling purposes. The AcoustiFan range uses oil-impregnated sleeve bearings for noiseless motor operation. The fan motor selected for this range of fans is also particularly low vibration. A fan motor may be quiet in free air, but the amount of motor vibration is very important when that same fan is attached to a computer case! AcoustiFan fans have both a quiet and low vibration motor - so the induced resonance when they are fixed to a case is kept to a minimum. Each fan is also shipped with a 3-pin in-line resistor which, if fitted between the fan and the power source, can further reduce the RPM so that fan operation is virtually silent. However, if you opt for the lowest fan speed, and virtually silent operation be certain to design the airflow through your system carefully and monitor system and component temperatures!
