Advantages: Multi regional. Disadvantages: Poor reception for remote control.

This turned out to be the case, the price point was pretty good (less than £150 in 2002) and a sheet of paper provided with the player told me how to convert the player to all regions – a sequence of key presses with the remote control.

Since then it has done the job intended for it; to play DVDs from various regions (I have used 0, 1, 2 and 4 successfully) plus it also plays VideoCDs (CD-I) and audio CDs. I believe it also has MP3 capability but have never tried this.
One main bug bear – you have to be really precise where you point the remote control at the machine otherwise the command is not received. This is unlike my other equipment where you can usually wave the remote in the general direction and that is good enough. Initially I thought this was a fault on my example but having read of other people’s experiences with this machine, it seems to be a design flaw with this player.
Difficult to recommend its purchase now, as you can buy DVD players from supermarkets for a fraction of the price, plus some of these are multi-regional too, which is my only real requirement.
