Who said romance was dead?
Review of True Romance (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by Boothegoose

Advantages: Original, fast paced, a multitude of stars
Disadvantages: Too violent, swearing

True Romance is a fantastic film which boasts an all-star cast including the likes of Christopher Walken, Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman amongst others and the film is filled with such colourful characters and indeed dialogue which provides a somewhat memorable movie. The plot is that Chrisitan Slater is an affable and well-meaning comic book clerk who goes out on a date with a hooker, played by Patricia Arquette, and they both fall ...
...chemistry between the two stars in the film, and they set out on a wild road trip after Slater kills Drexyl, Arquette's former pimp and coming into possession of some narcotics owned by the Mob. Oldman hams it superbly as the somewhat larger than life and colourful pimp and rarely has there been such a character in a film who is so obnoxious, so unbelievably vile with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever that we cannot help but cheer when he meets ... Not Exactly Valentine's Day
Review of True Romance (Director's Cut) (Special Edition) by BZ2886

Advantages: A-list ensemble cast, tarantino script, great action scenes
Disadvantages: Occassionally over-graphic

This film from 1993, directed by Tony Scott (previous works such as 'Top Gun' and Crimson Tide') and written by the universally known Quentin Tarantino. It is a tension filled and action packed movie with some really poignant and occasionally chilling sequences. The story centres around Clarence Worley (Christian Slater of 'Murder in the First' and 'Broken Arrow') a comic book store employee with a passion for Sonny Cheeba kung-fu movies and Elvis ...
...marathon in a cinema. Here he meets Alabama (Patricia Arquette of Stigmata.) She is a happy, young southern girl and they immediately hit it off. After the inevitable night-time events, Clarence awakes to find Alabama crying and she confesses she is a call girl hired by Clarence's boss as a birthday present. As she's crying obviously, the two already mean more than that to each other and are married the next morning. This is only the first five minutes ... Read review

I Best Say Thank You
Review of Batman Begins DVD by Nathan_Innit

Advantages: Batman all grown up
Disadvantages: Too long for some

...their big step in bringing Batman back to the big screen in 2005 with Batman Begins, and boy did they do it in a big way. I'm sure most people have seen a Batman film in the past, although with the special effects directors can now include in their movies, this was going to be something special. Batman Begins shows how the story starts, in this an era of when people want to know what started the chain of events. Christian Bale was cast the big role ...
...Bale has taken on, before Batman he appeared in 'America Psycho' (2000) and since this movie he has appeared in 'The Prestige' (2006). If you're going to be playing Batman, that means you're also going to be playing the man behind the mask. Bruce Wayne is the real man behind the mask. The film opens with a young Bruce Wayne playing around in the garden of his rich family manor with a female friend, who we later see the grown up version of as well. ... Read review

Proof that intelligence and action can co-exist
Review of The Bourne Identity (Wide Screen) (Special Edition) by pedroj

Advantages: thriller with intelligence
Disadvantages: the "special edition" could be more special

...Damon is Jason Bourne in the first of (currently) two films that follow the lead character's journey of self discovery after falling victim to amnesia and waking up with a bullet ridden body, an alarming propensity to easy violence and the access code to a Swiss safety deposit box. Without giving too much of the plot away, there are fights and chases (including a great car chase through Paris) and a bit of romance as Bourne tries to find out who ...
...kill him. The Bourne Identity is based on the first of 4 novels written by Robert Ludlum and featuring the exploits of Jason Bourne although it differs in many respects from the version on the printed page. However it was clearly a labour of love for director Doug Liman (who had previously directed Swingers and Go and has recently gone on to have a big hit with Mr and Mrs Smith) who formed a close relationship with the author during the making of ... King George commands and we obey
Review of Sharpe's Rifles / Sharpe's Eagle DVD by Secre

Advantages: Everything - plot, characters, acting, literally everything
Disadvantages: Nothing...if I'm pushed I could possibly say that they are long for single episodes.

...is the first chronological film, Sharpe's Rifles is not the first chronological novel, which would be Sharpe's Tiger when he starts as a private, but the events described in that book are placed much later in the TV show. DETAILS Title: Sharpe's Rifles / Sharpe's Eagle [1993] Date DVD released: 29 April 2002 Runtime: 200 minutes Number of Disks: 2 Format: PAL Director: Tom Clegg Main Actors: Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Daragh O'Malley, Assumpta ...
...period is quite extraordinary. Both Sharpe's Rifles and Sharpe's Eagle are set in 1809, and with both of these two episodes the book and the episode are very similar, with only slight differences. The knowledge of the period is not however only limited to the battles and events, but a very in depth knowledge of how the army in that period worked, and how the weapons were used, including the difference between rifles and muskets which I had never ...
