Frozen Elk Heart
Review of Happy Birthday, Jack Nicholson - Hunter S. Thompson by
Jagermeister5
Advantages: Detatched hilarity
Disadvantages: Very bizzare ramblings, confusing
...This neat size little book begins with a grim insight into the recent 911 tragedy, refering to the towers as being reduced to bloody smolders of rubble.
The main Gonzo piece Is one typical of Thompsons insane ventures, driving for ages feeling crisp and wise, head loaded with chemical intospective.
With a dangerously weird prank in mind, The Dr. packs an elk heart, frozen fresh from Owl farm, and with a brace of explosions and the sound of squeeling pigs surrounding, he slumps the still bleeding muscle onto the neighbouring actors doorstep.
Feeling spooked and embarassed at the reality of his act, Thompson flees back to Woody Creek in seach of refuge, only to be aprehended by Nicholson himself the following morning.
A must-read for any Gonzo fan, as this book offers a tidy packet of tricks often unavailable in his other pieces....

Aristotle, Aristotle
Review of Kings of Albion - Julian Rathbone by
jillmurphy
Advantages: Funny, energetic, funny, erudite, funny, vital, funny, you're getting my drift, right?
Disadvantages: Some over-long descriptive paragraphs, one dodgy subplot resolution, anachronism may not be for you.
...experience. England, through the eyes of these cultured, intelligent people is a strange, barbarous place. Yet, in this unfamiliar, threatening environment, all three find – in some way, at least – what it is they seek. What is the true identity of young Eddie March? What has happened to Jehani? Does England contain the knowledge they need to protect Vijayanagara? And will they even survive to tell the tale?
Oh, goodness me. Where to begin with The Kings of Albion? Struggling to find some contemporary references to place it for you, it has the same joyful rush of references and jokes as does the work of Douglas Adams or TV's The Simpsons. It adds to a long line of medieval stories told through anachronism such as The Once and Future King trilogy by T H White or A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain. It is the kind of book that...

Review of Angus, Thongs and full frontal Snogging - Louise Rennison by
roz14
Advantages: Once you start you wont be able to stop!!
Disadvantages: now...let me think..............
...Angus,Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging is the first in a series which, so far, consists of six books. It is a brilliant introduction in to the life of Georgia Nicholson which reveals the complications and confusion which a teenage girls life involves! It covers subjects from school work, to bullys, to boys even to her beloved scottish wild cat who hides behind the curtain ready to pounce and turn her new trousers in to shorts. Georgia also has a rather unusual family which includes:
*a dad who is bald and thinks he can dance-classic!
*a mum who thinks she is still 16
* a little sister who takes over her bed, dresses the cat up and then leaves little unwanted presents hidden inside her room where she can only smell it and not see it!
The story of Georgia Nicholson's life...
