The original Jazz Bass had two stacked knob pots with volume and tone control for each pickup. Around 1961 it received three control knobs: two controlling the volume of each pickup and one the overall tone. Famous players of the Fender Jazz include Adam Clayton, Jaco Pastorius, John Entwhistle, Marcus Miller and Flea. I bought my Fender Jazz Bass as it was a step up from the bass I was playing, but not too expensive. I paid £389.00 but I have seen them cheaper second hand. I find the bass quite heavy, but all of the more expensive makes were heavy and I was told this is due to the quality/type of wood being used.
