Manufacturer's product description
The Snap Server 12000 is ideal for business-critical storage in demanding IT environments. Hot-swappable hard drives along with redundant, hot-swappable power supplies and fans ensure system availability, while RAID 5 and global hot-spare capabilities guarantee data integrity. The Snap OS, with a footprint smaller than 10MB at runtime, has been optimized for network file sharing, making it fast and efficient with heavy user loads. Gigabit Ethernet connectivity ensures users quick access to data. The Snap Server 12000 requires no operating system licenses and installs in minutes with no network downtime. On-board access to vital system information is available via a liquid crystal display (LCD). Browser-based management console enables remote Web administration. The Snap Server 12000 features SNMP support for seamless management through popular packages such as HP OpenView, CA Unicenter or Tivoli NetView, and simultaneous file sharing between Windows, UNIX, Linux, Macintosh and Novell users. Free up nearly a terabyte of expensive SAN or application server space by transferring non mission-critical data to a Snap Server 12000. PowerQuest DataKeeper software allows automatic backup of Windows clients to the Snap Server. Use the Snap Server 12000 with the available Server-to-Server (S2S) Synchronization Software to back up other Snap Servers on your network. This compact solution for service providers offers high availability, low cost of acquisition and conserves valuable IT floor space.

Advantages: A bargain. Easy to install and used. Good entry level SCSI controller. Disadvantages: No support for higher data rates.
...If you plug an SCSI card into your pc, don’t hold your breath because nothing exciting is going to happen. (Unless of course you have made a very bad job of installing the card. Then you might see smoke and flames coming from your cherished/reviled PC or even, in extreme cases, find yourself moving down a tunnel towards a bright light.) However, once you have installed you SCSI card you will be able to attach any number of exciting devices to your pc.
Although this is an opinion of Adaptecs AVA-2900 series of SCSI card, it is also a general review of SCSI. I have done this because as far as I can tell this is the first review at Ciao of a SCSI controller card. This seems to be a bit of an over sight to me as any number of SCSI devices have been reviewed, (such as the excellent Plextor external SCSI cd writer which was the subject...

Advantages: Speed, 5 year warrenty Disadvantages: Low capacity considering price
...This hard disk drive is designed to be used in a high-end server solutions where both speed and reliability are paramount.
The largest bottleneck in any computer system is the hard disk drive. And as solid state technology is out of the price range of most PC enthusiasts, the next best thing (after adding more RAM) is to upgrade the hard disk drive.
The Seagate 15,000 RPM Cheetah is currently the fastest hard disk drive on the market. This drive is seriously fast and very reliable, hence the 5 year warranty from Seagate. I can vouch for this warranty from experience. Unless the drive has been physically abused, Seagate will replace it.
The only downside to purchasing this hard disk drive is that you will need to purchase a SCSI controller card and cable in order for your new drive to get friendly with your current system...

Advantages: Works well out of box; captures video as MPEG-2 flawlessly Disadvantages: Stopped working after a Microsoft update - Adaptec will not offer free fix.
...Product served me well for transferring several piles of VHS tapes to my Media Center 2005 machine. Then - Microsoft came out with some software update and product only works for a limited time. Pause it while recording and the PC freezes. restart the PC and it no longer detects the device. Remove device - uninstall drivers and uninstalling WinDVR 3 all temporary fixes - problem reoccurs. Doing the C++ registry hack worked very limited, now does not. Adaptec - with this known problem - can not even be contacted outside of their "pay" support. Adaptec has not updated their searchable database with the "fix" - they apparently demand their customers to pay them before they assist. A sad state of affairs within a once-great company. Shame on you, Adaptec!...
