Advantages: Speed, 5 year warrenty Disadvantages: Low capacity considering price
...This hard disk drive is designed to be used in a high-end server solutions where both speed and reliability are paramount.
The largest bottleneck in any computer system is the hard disk drive. And as solid state technology is out of the price range of most PC enthusiasts, the next best thing (after adding more RAM) is to upgrade the hard disk drive.
The Seagate 15,000 RPM Cheetah is currently the fastest hard disk drive on the market. This drive is seriously fast and very reliable, hence the 5 year warranty from Seagate. I can vouch for this warranty from experience. Unless the drive has been physically abused, Seagate will replace it.
The only downside to purchasing this hard disk drive is that you will need to purchase a SCSI controller card and cable in order for your new drive to get friendly with your current system...

Advantages: A bargain. Easy to install and used. Good entry level SCSI controller. Disadvantages: No support for higher data rates.
...expensive but you also needed to buy a special and expensive SCSI controller card. The price and performance difference gap between SCSI has now fallen significantly (IDE is better SCSI is cheaper). You can now pick up a brand new SCSI card for £30 to £40 and SCSI devices are cheaper too. SCSI does still have the edge though and it is sometimes worth paying just a little bit more. The high rate of data transfer makes SCSI is attractive to those who moving large amounts of data, consequently a lot of servers and high-end workstations use SCSI. The sort of people who work with these systems don’t really need telling about SCSI, grandmother and eggs springs to mind. A good example of why an ordinary mortal might use SCSI would be anyone interested in working with digital video or large sound files or who wants to write cds quickly or scan...

Advantages: Smaller, less power hungry Disadvantages: None
...Hewlett packard servers here at work and these drives suit the G5 style servers. The drivescome installed in a hot swap caddy which makes installation a matter of pushing into place and snapping the locking mechanism down. A 'Push and forget' install.
Storage capacity. Huge and identical to the older style drives. The disk size is 146.8Gb which means they are ideal for large data storage capability in a data centre or virtualised environments.
Access speeds. Fast! These disks are revolving at 10,000RPM and have fantastic data access speeds as well as writing data back to the drive.
The extra speed does not come with the side effects of the bigger drives. No heavy power consumption. No heavy heat generation.
Flexibility. They are built specifically for the G5 model HP Proliant serversso you cannot port them across to other types of servers...
