Advantages: Light, slim Disadvantages: Needs external power :(
...that comes out of the drive itself, it just uses a slot that you push the DVD or CD into and it then ejects out. Even though the SLW-831SX is slim it is also quite though and durable so if you're sitting at your table and you knock it off it won't break :)
The SLW-831SX uses a USB2connection that all laptops come with these days so you don't have to worry about not being able to connect it to your computer (the USB2 cable comes with the drive so you don't have to go and buy it too) Now because it uses this USB2connection is not as fast as say and IDE DVD RW that you would have in your PC but that not much of a problem because your paying for this drive to be external so it can be used anywhere (as long as there's a plug there lol)
The drive writes at speeds of 8x (DVD-/+), 2.4x (DVD+R Dual Layer), 4x (DVD-/+ RW) and 24x (CD-R and CD...

Advantages: Works well out of box; captures video as MPEG-2 flawlessly Disadvantages: Stopped working after a Microsoft update - Adaptec will not offer free fix.
...Product served me well for transferring several piles of VHS tapes to my Media Center 2005 machine. Then - Microsoft came out with some software update and product only works for a limited time. Pause it while recording and the PC freezes. restart the PC and it no longer detects the device. Remove device - uninstall drivers and uninstalling WinDVR 3 all temporary fixes - problem reoccurs. Doing the C++ registry hack worked very limited, now does not. Adaptec - with this known problem - can not even be contacted outside of their "pay" support. Adaptec has not updated their searchable database with the "fix" - they apparently demand their customers to pay them before they assist. A sad state of affairs within a once-great company. Shame on you, Adaptec!...

Advantages: Lightweight, small, battery life, stylish, robust, Excellent toshiba supprt Disadvantages: Expensive if bought new (mine was second hand and very good value)
...The Toshiba M100 is one of the best laptops around, and for the price I paid, it offers so much. Well what can i say, i bought this machine second hand for £420 on ebay (3 MONTHS OLD) and have had it for approx 12 months. i would not swap it currently (11/11/05)
So what do I think of it, It is supurb .
It is fast functional and a stylish silver colour with good design. It has every function you could wish for including wireless card USB2 firewire IR bluetooth CDRW SD card slot win xp Pro good quality speakers and a lovely sharp crisp screen the softkey keyboard is easy to use. Very lightweight at under 2 kgs I can carry it around in my handbag (just).
The Toshiba M100 features an Intel Centrino 1.4 GHz processor (400 MHz data bus). The notebook usually ships with 256mb ram but can be upgraded to 2GB I opted to upgrade to 1 GB...

Max Richter's The Blue Notebooks meant nothing to me until suggested that I might enjoy it. Fair enough, says I and so I went to take a look at reviews. I found little but what I did find intrigued me. I also found you couldn't buy it.
