Manufacturer's product description
The SmartView Multiscreen expands the horizons of computer control by adding multiple monitor support to an advanced KVM switch. The SmartView KVM (Keyboard, Video monitor, Mouse) switches are known for their robust and reliable operation and have been trusted by many to provide problem free control of multiple computers. The Multiscreen is a new concept in KVM switches and enables you to benefit from all the convenience of the proven SmartView switches whilst taking advantage of the multiple monitor facilities available on many modern computers. Computers fitted with multiple video cards are becoming more common as operating systems have developed to make use of the extended video "real estate" offered by multiple monitors. The increased display area enables more information to be presented to the user without reducing the resolution. The Multiscreen enables several computers equipped with these multiple video facilities to be controlled from a keyboard, mouse and an array of monitors. All the monitors and the keyboard and mouse are switched together from one computer to the next giving you full control of the wider picture. Like all SmartView switches, the Multiscreen maximizes the video quality by minimizing any ghosting, smudging or fading effects. Consequently, excellent video clarity is maintained even at higher screen resolutions. DDC (Display Data Channel) signaling is supported on all the SmartView's video ports making them "plug-and-play" compatible and enabling your computers' video cards to be configured for best performance. The SmartView recognizes the importance of quick and easy channel switching by providing features that simplify the computer selection process. The keyboard hotkey sequences are designed for quick-fire operation and the mouse may be used to "flick through" active computers with minimal hand movements. Ease of use is further enhanced by the optional remote controller which enables a very neat installation whilst keeping you in full control.
Advantages: Quick and easy to set up Disadvantages: Video may get interference
...I've had this KVMswitch for a number of years now, since my previous one only had two ports. I found this one fairly cheap somewhere. You're supplied with all the VGA and PS2 cables for each of the 4 connections. You can then plug these cables into your computers. The button on the top allows for quick switching.
But as well as using the button for switching between computers, you are also able to use keyboard shortcuts. These are pretty common in KVMswitches, and belkin manage to do it the same way as everyone else. Great for people that are already used to using a KVMswitch. The KVMswitch has a useful beep, which can be helpful to understand when a command was received by the switch.
The switch also has a port for plugging in power. This helps improve the quality of the picture as there is more power behind it. Most of the time...

Advantages: Price, quality, ease of setup, looks Disadvantages: none
...I've just installed this great keyboard and mouse wireless set.
It is great - the mouse is optical and the keyboard, well made.
One vital piece of information: this keyboard works seamlessly with a KVM. I have a Belkin 2portKVM and it set up perfectly.
Some of the Logitech wireless sets do not support KVMswitches and in fact one in particular does not have a "scroll lock" key - which is the hot-key for switching between the computers connetced to the switch.
So, in short, if you are looking to have a wireless keyboard and mouse and need a PS/2 connection and are using a KVM (Belkin or otherwise) and are on a budget - you simply cannot go wrong with this set....

Advantages: Take 3 monitors, keyboards and mice off your desktop. Disadvantages: Not recommended for newer (all USB) devices.
...Overall a frustrating experience with some machines and as a result cannot recommend this device, particularly when using newer machines.
I have a number of these devices and all exhibit the same problem, which suggests a common fault, in that some newer Dell machines do not seem to synchronise with this device when switched to.
Ironically, older machines (Dell GX150/260/270/280) work with this device without any problems, even though they are intended to have a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.
Newer machines, such as the GX620 and 745, which are all USB machines (no PS/2) have problems synchronising when switched to. There is no response from the keyboard and mouse on screen, although the keypresses to switch to another port on the KVM seem to work, yet if a USB keyboard and mouse are plugged in to the machine in question then everything...
