Advantages: Compatible with newer 24pin motherboards and EPS12v Server boards, High wattage, Silent fan operation Disadvantages: Needs adapter to use with 20pin motherboards,
...Upon upgrading my computer to an athlon MP system, i thought it would be a good idea to change my powersupply for something a bit more powerful.
When i looked up the specifications for this powersupply at antec`s website, there was nothing i could fault.
Looking into it further, i found that i would need a 24pin to 20pin adapter to use this on my motherboard.
The handy thing is that although this isnt an ATX2.0 powersupply, the 24pin pinout for the EPS12v ATX connector is 100% identical to the ATX2.0 24pin pinout. Another reason why i decided on this powersupply (so when i upgrade to dual opterons - this powersupply will be ample and will already provide the correct connectors).
You can always tell the quality of a powersupply by its weight, and these ones are heavy!
Comparing it to my old Q-tec 400w powersupply you would think...

...I was hoping for a silent computer, but had to go back to my old powersupply as the EFN-300 consistently overheats. You can easily fry eggs on the surface. I even attached TWO fans directly to the powersupply, but it would still overheat. Once overheated, the powersupply will not allow the computer to switch on. You have to wait 20 min or so for it to cool down before it will boot again. I don't have that many things in the system drawing power. This is absolutely unacceptable. I went back to my old supply, an Enermax "silent" of some sort, but replaced it's fans with a single Papst fan and things are at least better.
Avoid this powersupply.
While I'm at it, I'll put in a vote for SilentDrive hard drive enclosures. They really cut the noise from my HDD to almost zero and aren't too expensive. My powersupply is still...

Advantages: Stable Voltage for all components Disadvantages: Exspensive
...OK ok ok the powersupply does have a limit, but to be fair...very few people shall ever take it to that stage.
If anyone out there is having Problems with their PC and need to find a better PSU?..Then look no further than this! The Antec TruePower 550W is the Best PC POWERSUPPLY money can buy at the moment.
It will give stable voltages all the time, and this can be seen via the graphic cards software, and also in The BIOS of some computers.
The fan is controlled by a thermostat within the PSU, so obviously if the psu is cold the cooling fans will spin slow, and if the PSU starts to rise in temperature the fans pick up speed to improve the cooling within the unit.
All connectors are black, and the main power cable for the Motherboard is Braided with a black Netting (24Pin).
Though the Unit has a steep price so beware but if u...
