First Impressions

I will begin by outlining which specific socks I am reviewing, as 'Adidas Socks Men' is a very vague heading, and could be used to describe many different designs. I own the Adidas 'T Run' Ankle Running Socks. Although they are similar to the socks in the Ciao image, they are different in a number of aspects.

These are ankle socks and are therefore suited for wearing with shorts and trainers. I wouldn't say they are designed to wear in the winter so much, though thicker socks can cause problems with fitting my trainers on, so I do still need something thin in the winter months. The socks are predominantly white, with the toes and heel finished in black, completed with a blue outline. The heel of the foot area is grey. Also on the socks are the letters 'L' and 'R', ensuring you know which sock to put onto which foot. Around the back of the ankle is the Adidas logo and name in black, ensuring it stands out against the white background.

Fitting

The Adidas 'T Run' Ankle Running Socks are obviously ankle socks, meaning they come up to the ankle and are therefore not particularly generous as to how high they come up. They sit up to the ankle and I wear size 11-12 trainers. These socks come in a range of sizes, 2-3.5,4.5-6,6.5-8, 8.5-10 and 10-12.5. I own the largest size and they fit very well. It has to be said that from experience I have had the same sized socks in other brands and found they don't fit aswell. Mainly this is because the sizes aren't as generous, and there is a good amount of 'give' in these socks, meaning they will be suitable for a broader range of foot size.

Why Running Socks?

You may be wondering what the difference is between typical ankle socks and running socks. Running socks do differ, even from general sports socks they offer advantages. The first major advantage of running socks is that each sock in a pair isn't identical. The way the socks are designed mean each pair has an 'L' and an 'R' sock. The reason behind this is that the fit is much more comfortable and results in not just a better overall fit but also improves performance and improves the running experience. the darker regions of the sock (heel and toe) have strategically placed cushioning to improve comfort. The Toe also has an inverted seam which is designed for comfort and also improves the look and finish of the sock. I do have regular socks with an inverted seam, though this isn't often afforded to the cheaper brands and is often reserved for good quality socks.

There are other notable differences, some of which I will mention later. The Adidas 'T Run' Ankle Running Socks cannot be worn on the wrong feet. I suppose you could try to put them on the wrong feet, but they would be very uncomfortable and they would be difficult to run in. The cushioning to the aforementioned regions of the socks does improve comfort, and although there are thicker areas of padding, this doesn't make my feet sweat profusely.

The benefits

Although I have mentioned a number of improvements over the basic ankle sock there is one final difference. The Adidas 'T Run' Ankle Running Socks are not made from just any materials. The materials have been selected carefully with moisture at the front of the mind. As we run our feet produce more sweat than they would usually, so the addition of mesh areas on the top of the foot improve ventilation to this area. These mesh areas are made from 'Coolmax' fabric and PTFE. PTFE is more commonly seen in the application of Teflon. It's properties include being resistant to holding moisture and so it is ideal for use in channeling sweat away from the feet.

Adidas invest heavily in research and development of technology, some of which is present in these socks. The result is not only a very comfortable sock but also one which performs well under typical running conditions of sweat and impact. The cushioning really is a welcome bonus. Although running shoes do usually contain a lot of additional padding for comfort and to maximise performance, the comfort these socks provide are a welcome addition.

Final Words

The Adidas 'T Run' Ankle Running Socks really are designed for optimum performance in mind. These are no cheap spin-offs cashing in on the brand. Adidas have developed every aspect of these socks to benefit the consumer and at a price of around £4 they are reasonably priced. You might think £4 is a lot of money for a single pair of socks, but even if you run regularly you won't have a need for more than two or three pairs of running socks. If you are a keen runner you won't regret the purchase of these socks, as they will not just improve performance and comfort whilst running, they have never caused me blisters or given me any aches or pains - other than those gained through the actual running!
