Hi. I'm a 34 year old guy from Bedfordshire. I run my own business from home and am currently addicted to Ciao! I love my cars, mountain biking and music. I'm engaged and have two stepkids and a dog. That's me in a nutshell.

I've been with Admiral for about eight years now. They've always been cheap (ish) and their customer service has been acceptable if not the most praise-worthy. However, an incident occurred when renewing my policy this year that made me see them in a whole new light.
I had been running a Land Rover Defender with a separate insurer for a couple of years (one of the specialist 4x4 insurers) but decided to give Admiral a chance this year. I have two other cars, both insured with Admiral, and a third car adding to the policy should have increased my 'mutiple car' discount with them, so it made sense. Or so I thought.
Upon asking for a quote for the Defender I was asked if the vehicle has any modifications. I replied that it had a raised air intake - not performance enhancing in the slightest (try improving the performance of a brick on truck tyres!) . I was informed that this air intake allowed the vehicle to be driven off road and so they had to refer it to the underwriters. It's a Land Rover Defender for crying out loud! They're built to go off road....the air intake realy makes no difference to this at all! Anyway, they never came back to me. A week later I called to chase and was told that it was uninsurable. No one had called me to let me know. No one could explain why it was uninsurable and no one appeared to care. I then asked to speak to the customer services dept to make a complaint. 90 minutes later I was still waiting to talk to someone having been mis directed three times, cut off four times and put on hold three times for over 10 minutes per go! When I eventually spoke to someone I complained at the shoddy service and questioned whether I should continue to insure my two other cars with them after all this time as a loyal customer. I was informed that it was my decision and that for every customer they lost, they could find two more! I could hardly believe my ears! If only all businesses could be so lucky.
If this was a one off incident I would put it down to a bad day, shortage of staff etc but it does seem that Admiral have lost their way in the realms of customer service. I cannot recommend Admiral for this and many other reasons (like the time they tried to take my guaranteed no claims off me saying I had made a claim when I had not..I could go on). My only surprise I'm afraid is why I stayed with them for so long. Do yourself a favour and give Admiral a wide berth. They may be cheaper than some but you will pay for it when you speak to them.

It's shocking to think that they really don't care! John

My boyfriend was with Admiral last year and not only was their customer service awful when it came to renewal time their price was stupidly high compared to many other quotes, very helpful review
