Premier has excellent potential and copes with high definition but really needs the Matrox Hardware acceleration (I installed this in June costing around £700 and it goes some way to deal with the instability, see below).
I have used version of Premiere for years, both professionally and for home use. I enjoy using it - the only problem is that it crashes often and I have to restore my system from an early image after a few days as it corrupts quickly.
As yet Adobe have not made a 64 bit system - but the 32 bit versions will last a while yet.
I like the design and potenital - but cannot gve it five stars as it is too unstable (a problem reported frequently in Adobe technical forums).
I am about to learn Vagus 8 out of necessity as I cannot afford to fix Premiere so often as I am turning professional again and need reliability. If Premier was more robust I would not hesitate to give it a five star rating.

Hi,
It s a quite large area to comemnt on so let me know if you want a particular focus: As a cut and edit program it is very good - I find it easly to work with, a bit llike a word processpr doing video. You can adjust sound and apply filters to exclude low or high frequencfy sound (e.g. an airplane passing oer) which can make speech clearer. Ther eis a great deal of power in customising filters.
With the Matrox software added the effects are truly stuning - and these don'thave to be used on video (it can detract from the subject) but can also be applied to the titleing sequences and help to animate them - without having to be an 'animater'.
Applying aging effects and changing colour, even making your video look like '60'd film stock is easy to do. I restored some cine film and was able to slow the film to 96% of its recorded speed and play it back in real time (this corrected the pitch of the soudtrack which had been distorted).
I also used Studio 8 at times - but it lacks the degree of control. However it is good for re-rendering some video formats for Premeire as Premiere is fussy and does not handle some well. For example, files from my stills camera that can shoot video.
If you are going towards Blu-ray then Premiere ahs Encore bundled with it and you can author to Bl;u-ray or DVD (I just use a DVD recorder - easier but gives boring menues).
It dependes what you want from a NLE in the end - and what you are used to using . . .
