I'm 24, engaged, and work as an accountant for a large multi-national. My main hobbies are modified cars, music, and computers and the internet. I run a website, as well as moderating on a couple of automotive forums, so I spend a lot of time online!

Having a fault accident to my name, driving a group seven car, and being into modified cars at a young age all added up to one thing, Expensive Insurance! With this in mind I allotted myself one day last summer just before I bought my car to ring around getting some quotes. The first few were scary numbers, £3,200, £4,000, £3,700, and I began to dispair. Eventually I managed to get a quote for £1,600 from Adrian Flux which was considerably lower than all of the other quotes. Impressed by the price, I said yeah, and there was 12 monthsinsurance sorted out.
Problems began a week later, when I got a letter from them telling me they weren't going to insure me unless I had a Thatcham approved alarm fitted within seven days. This is AFTER I had told them on the phone that the only alarm on it was the standard Rover one. Bang goes another £250 quid for a new alarm.
Then, when I got around to starting to modify my car I had problems. The forms they send out are long winded and ask more questions than they really need to, but with insurance being a legal requirment and your answers forming part of a legally binding document you really have to fill EVERYTHING in to make sure you are covered. It took me an hour and a half to tell them I had put alloys on!!!
And when I changed my number plate to a private plate I got charged £21 to change my details! I wish I was a secretary ther, they must be coining it in to charge £21 for 14 presses on a keyboard and a couple of mouse clicks.
Couple this to the fact that although they usually answer the phone within four rings, you generally spend 10 minutes on hold and their customer service really does make you question why you pay these people your money. Although not really rude, their staff are not exactly the most helpful, and for an insurance company who bill themselves as modifed specialists they don't seem to know that much about some modifications.
Overall, if you have trouble getting insurance because of your claims or driving history then Adrian Flux will be worthwhile as they'll be one of the few companies to touch you, but be warned, don't expect first class service for the standard fare!

Hi Andy about 3 years ago i got a quote from these guys as well just for an astra sxi lightly modded with my wife on the insurance and they quoted me about £600 which was more than the £250 i was quoted by Lambard Direct, so i'd be staying away from Adrian Flux as well. Great review of a crap company.
