I have previously held a policy with Adrian Flux and must say that I found the whole experience of having a policy with them to be a complete nightmare.
There staff were on more than one occasion less than helpful and I spent what seemed to be hours on hold on the phone attempting to get various problems resolved. I have listed below some of the main problems encountered:
1. Continuation cover notes were not automatically issued my Adrian Flux so I had to call them every 30 days until my certificate finally turned up some 3 months later.
2. 2 months into the policy I got asked to provide documentary evidence that a claim I had had 4 years prior had been settled in my favour or the policy would be cancelled.
3. 4 months into the policy I got sent another letter stating that there was an additional premium of £60 due for a conviction my husband had had which had been disclosed at the time I obtained the quotation and also on the proposal form.
5 months into the policy I sold the car so decided to cancel the policy that was when I found out about the direct debit charges. Adrian Flux use a company called Can-Do Finance who basically pay the insurer the full annual premium for the policy which they then collect from you monthly. The price of the policy was £448 plus direct debit surcharge for the year, I paid a £90 deposit, £180 in monthly instalments and had to pay a further £60 at time of cancelletion to clear the finance. This means I ended up paying £330 for a 5 month policy!!
Clearly I was unhappy about this and could not get a satisfactory answer from Adrian Flux about the high charge so decided to call the insurer directly. It was only then that I discovered that I could have paid for the policy on the insurers direct debit scheme which only carried an 8% surcharge instead of 13.5% charged by Can-Do and that there would not have been any additional charge for cancelling. Because the insurer had received the full annual premium for my policy from Can-Do they charge short period rates when cancelling mid-term.
If you are taking a policy out through a broker in the future and opt to pay by direct debit and they offer you their direct debit scheme enquire what direct debit scheme the insurer offers as it could save you money in the long run!!

I've used Adrian Flux for years without problem. Sounds like you had a terrible time though. Bit more info on quotes, who they insure via and how they handle claims would be v helpful. Steve
