Advance Wars 2--a sequel to possibly the best game ever for the Game Boy Advance--is ... more
finally here; it's exactly the same as it was before, and for once that's a really good thing.A turn-based strategy game of the type that PC owners regularly use to send their children to sleep,Advance Wars 2should by rights be just as dull; but a combination of slick presentation and an insistence on keeping the rules simple and the unit types and map sizes to a minimum means it's actually one of the most insanely addictive games sinceTetris. Manipulating armies of tanks, battleships and air-force bombers has never been so much fun.As noted, there's nothing very different about this sequel except for a few new enemy-fixed gun emplacements and one new unit, the slightly dull neotank. Perhaps the most significant change is that the COs (the commanding officers who act as personification of either side in the battle) now have two levels of special ability, which ups the tactical considerations of the game a notch. The full-featured map designer is also maintained from the previous iteration, as is the facility for two players to compete against each other using the same console and cartridge, or for four to gang up using a Game Link cable. It is, in short, one of the best things ever. --David Jenkins

I've always despised strategy games, in fact, I'm the last person you'll find looking through strategy games in a video games stores. But for some reason, Advance Wars lured me in. All the 10 out of 10's in magazines, glaring at me, saying "Buy me! Buy me!", I just couldn't turn back, the temptation was too great. So I had to give, I bought it, no matter how much I hated strategy games, this snagged me on a hook and wouldn't let me go.
Luckily it didn't grab my legs and slam my head off a rock, but it wouldn't let me stop playing it! It's the kind of game that you just keep playing and playing. First of all the game eases you into the game with the field training. Nell teaches you the basics and at first the missions are pretty simple, you should get A Rank on all of them until, say Dogfights. There are a few tricky missions before that, but if you listen to good ol' Nell you should be fine. The last three missions are quite tricky and you don't get many tips, but still they are of a low difficulty level.
After you finish all the field training, you start the real game. You open up the Campaign, War Room and Design Maps. Like the field training, the Campaign eases you in slowly. You should really get A Rank on the early levels. My favourite mode is Design Maps. You can design what kind of battlefield you want and choose which side has which units, stations and cities. You can make the craziest battles ever. I like to make a little island in the middle and one in the corner with a port and an HQ on both of them and ending up having a huge naval battle. There are too many things to do. When you've finished all the campaigns, you can play mulitiplayer over and over, thrashing your un-experienced mates and laughing in their faces.
Many people say the game looks very square and graphically poor. But considering the amount of pixels used, I think they've done a good job. A lot of people seem to think it looks terrible because they're used to their Tomb Raiders and their Goldeneyes. Games with much higher standards than GBA games. The animation is very smooth when vehicles are moving and the battle scenes. I seem to enjoy watching cute little army man getting killed in various different ways. Dropping huge bombs on them from your bomber, they never had a chance...
One thing that I noticed was how good the sound effects are for a GBA game. The explosions sound brilliant and the music is fun to listen. But for some reason it's happy-go-lucky music in a strat game, which you have to blow people up in. Strange really.
Another thing you'll notice about this game is it's originality, it seems to have a perfect combination of cutesy style graphics with a potential murdering sim. It's like crossing Pokémon with Command and Conquer. I love this idea. It's not genre mixing, but just style mixing. I like the whole new idea. I'm proud to own such an original title.
Well, as my review comes to a close, hopefully you will have learned 3 things. firstly you'll know that Advance Wars is brilliant and worthy of 5/5. Secondly, you should know I have a slight mental disorder and thirdly that games refer to people as 'fish'.

...was and said it was Advance Wars.
Advance Wars is a turn-based strategy game where you buy units such as tanks and Medium tanks to attack enemies or use infantry to sneak behind the enemy and capture their HQ. Advance Wars has loads of options to play the game, so can’t get bored easily and there are loads of secret characters to unlock, so it takes ages to complete. The options are:

In the game there are loads of units to buy, but you need Bases, Airports and Ports to buy them. They also cost money and you get 1000G per allied Building you own. Advantages: Longeivity, Nice Graphics, Pure Gameplay Disadvantages: The hours you'll waste on it
Advance Wars is a gaming masterpiece. I could just stop there but after playing it on and off for over 4 months, it's now time I put it down and reviewed it!
The game sees you taking charge of a number of different military units, ranging from ground troops to helicopters and submarines. Obviously there's an opponent(s) along the way.
To start with, the game takes you through a military training course, which you have to pass before you can get ... ...it takes a few hours to pass it. The aim of the game is to capture your opponents HQ or wipe out their forces. Simple... well kind of and it's the simplicity and variety of missions and tactics that are so enthralling.
So on to the game. There are a number of different commanders, who have different skills. Initially, you are in control of Andy, who's Mr Average. The different skill sets mean different powers, which are mainly distance covered and ...

Advantages: One of few strategy games on the GBA Disadvantages: Like action? Then get lost!
Overview: You are a general (about 15yrs old?!) who controls an army from a top down 2D view and gets into a number of battles across your world. The plot is very simplistic with a twist in the tail that makes you feel a bit tired rather than more exited! (What? You mean I've been fighting all these people and THIS is why? GRR!)
Controls: Easy to learn, many functions on a few buttons sounds crampled but I had no worries.
Gameplay: You control ... ...the various terrain types make things really interesting. There is little resource management, most missions you car just given a set number units to use. Turn based, forward thinking....TOLD YOU IT WAS LIKE CHESS! When two units attack each other, a little animated cutscene pops up showing you how you did: pointless really, but it can be turned off. Also, the tutorial missions are fantastic and help you learn all the tricks of the trade in no time; ...

Advantages: Crisp Graphics, Loong Game and Extremely Fun Disadvantages: Gets Challenging Quite Quickly
...are no words to describe Advance Wars - it's just such a great game!
The storyline is something like you are a general of an army and so it is your job to command infantry units, tanks, planes, etc. It's not as boring as it sounds. The graphics are cute and drawn in anime-style, making the game a joy to look at, and the music and sound effects is not half-bad for a GBA game either.
The gameplay consists of you moving units around the map, capturing ... ...directly with an enemy, you enter a new screen, with even more detailed graphics where your troops will shoot at each other, whether they be boats, planes or tanks. Different units have different weaknesses and the weaker units can travel over mountains etc, making it a balanced and fun game for kids and adults alike, though teenagers would probably be best suited to this game.
At the beginning of the game you can take part in some training missions ...

...fine strategists who applaud. Indeed Advance Wars proves astonishing manner at which point all the types of plays have their place on the small GBA. Véritable simulation of war, this production, quite atypical for Nintendo, setting however on a style very nice cartoon to defuse its warlike side. Advantages: Portable, plenty of supporters, battery life, front lit screen Disadvantages: No earphone port, no 3D graphics, average sound reproduction
an original GBA that looked like the Nokia Ngage phone) is that it has a front light so we can play in the dark, and it has a rechargable Li-Ion battery so we just have to recharge it, plus it lasts up to 12 hours with the lights on. Now why didn't Nintendo release this one before the original GBA is beyond me but the GBA SP is still a very nice looking handheld console.
The buttons for the little game playing machine include your classic Gameboy buttons: A, B, start and select. GBA introduce the two new L and R shoulder buttons, and now GBA SP has made them smaller to fit onto the more sleeker GBA SP. The buttons are very responsive and easy to press on. They don't stick nor have that horrible clicky noise if you press them all the time. All good then!

Advantages: Portable, ability to link with friends, nowadays very cheap to buy with great games only available on the GBA Disadvantages: No backlight
the GBA's best games but are up there with the best portable games ever, all of which cement the GBA's position as a solid handheld. At the time of this writing, games of the superior Playstation Portable and Nintendo DS can only hope to catch up.
As a footnote, if you don't own a GBA already you might want to buy the next generational Nintendo DS as it is backwards compatible with most of the GBA's games (single-player modes only); and as a console is only as good as its best games, the best of the GBA's I will now alphabetically summarise for you. Happy gaming.
1. ADVANCEWARS (2001) [ONLY ON THE GBA]

can earn coins doing the levels, similar to Versus except you get nothing for versus and you can control the enemies on versus. The Design Room feature has endless possibilites with the ability to make any sort of map.
Another New feature (I know there's lots) is Combat mode. It's sort of a mini game where you drive around in real time and not turn based, shooting enemy Tanks, Infantry, Artillery or Recons.
The Gameplay is mainly turn based, which if you like that FF-esc battle system, you'll love this. New units such as Carriers, Stealth Jets, Megatanks and Oozium play host in this game too.
Combat mode is the only option available when playing single card WiFi mode, but with more than one AdvanceWars cards you can play normal battles.
A small downside is the graphics which are pretty much the same as the GBA version and some ...
