Now the inherent problem of Aftershock is the way it looks. It does not look appetising at all in my view. There are four flavours of it now. I thought for a change I would review something slightly more unusual (well I suppose you could say the fact that I am writing a review is unusual given that I haven’t done so for a while!) Nevertheless, I decided to review what has become a favoured tipple of mine in recent months and that is Aftershock. As is probably given away by its name more than anything else, it is a spirit and one of the new ‘trendy’ drinks that are available at the moment.
I was first introduced to it only a few months ago on my 18th birthday. We were having a party at my house and my dad decided to buy two bottles of Aftershock. Now I’d never actually had it before (of course I wasn’t 18 so I couldn’t drink any alcohol, ahem) so I wasn’t wholly sure what to expect. Ok, I admit, I had had some spirits before, vodka, whisky and Bacardi. Now call me a big girl but I just didn’t like them! They didn’t really seem to have much taste (though my dad informs me that you only start to like whisky once you are older and the taste buds have matured a little (I think by matured he meant deteriorated but anyway…)) So its 02.00, we have all drank too much, the Aftershock is unveiled and what a sight it is to behold.
Now the inherent problem of Aftershock is the way it looks. It does not look appetising at all in my view. There are four flavours of it now. The original two, which were red and blue and now there is green and purple (which hasn’t been available for long). The colours are particularly vibrant, for example, I’d more accurately describe the blue as ‘electric blue’ more than anything else. We had a bottle of red and one of blue. Now I decided (naturally being an Evertonian) to try the blue one. The bottle calls the blue one ‘Cool Citrus’ (but everyone basically names them by colour). One, two, three… the shot is down and how does it taste… well to be honest, great! It is difficult to describe how the blue Aftershock tastes. It has a kind of minty flavour and smell to match. Now one thing I also noticed is that you aren’t overwhelmed by the sense of strength of alcohol in it. This drink is 40% alcohol (81 proof) but does not taste like it.
Ok, so my first Aftershock experience was complete and I felt the better for it! What next? Well, more Aftershock! At mine and Claire’s engagement party (also at my house) I drank quite a lot of it. Now, I’m also glad to say that Aftershock doesn’t really take to much effect on me, so the next day I was still feeling great! The next try was to be the red one (though I’m not wholly sure when I had this). I have to say I wasn’t very keen on it. It wasn’t too strong but more that it just simply didn’t taste nice! It has a very strong cinnamon taste and smell and despite the fact I quite like cinnamon, I just didn’t like it in this drink!
Thirdly, I had the pleasure of trying the green aftershock, this is called thermal bite. It smells a lot like menthol cough medicine to be honest. I have to say that when I bought it and took a whiff I began to regret it a little. However, I couldn’t back out so I had to go with it. It was actually surprisingly nice. It did taste very menthol-esque but not in a bad way, as it wasn’t an overwhelming taste. I wouldn’t rank this as my favourite but if it was on offer I certainly would not refuse it! And this one certainly warms the cockles more than any other! And it really does have a strong ‘aftershock’.
Finally, it was the turn of the newest addition to the Aftershock family, which is still difficult to get hold of in shops. This is the purple one. Now I haven’t a clue what this one is called (as it is stashed behind the bar so I can’t see it!). I have to say that I only tried this about 3 weeks ago and it has already displaced the blue one as my favourite. When I saw it behind the bar I though, yes, I have to have some of that tonight! So I ordered the shot and as everyone does, I smelt it first and I have to say that it smelt positively gorgeous. I would say the closest to it is Ribena cordial (before you add water). That strong almost blackcurrant smell is what you get with this version of Aftershock. So I knocked it back and I have to say it tasted amazing. It wasn’t like drinking alcohol even; it was just pure blackcurrant-like delight! A truly great drink!
One problem of aftershock is that it is quite expensive, though in its defence, the price has come down now. At my local you will pay £1.50 for a shot. In Asda, you can buy a 70cl bottle for about £18. This in fact used to be closer to £25. So as you can see, it has reduced. As I mentioned before, this is very strong stuff and you must be extremely careful to not do it to excess! I personally only drink it at the end of a night as a kind of night cap. Those who drink it as a main drink do worry me a little! Just one final thing I have missed is the packaging. Aftershock come is a stained glass bottle that takes its colour mostly from the liquid inside! It still on the whole looks very cool though!
However, all in all, this is a great drink. It is difficult to give an accurate rating as it is a sliding scale on each flavour. Overall I would give 5 stars as it is such a great drink! However I would give 5, 4, 3 and 2 to purple, blue, green and red respectively. I hope this review was of some use and tells you just what exactly this drink is all about!

...to write a review of Aftershock for the past few weeks but, being a dedicated Ciaoer who takes all her reviews so seriously, I just had to try it out several times to ensure that I was able to write an accurate and comprehensive review ;0) So last night, I decided that I would try out a good few and finally get around to writing this, even though my head is aching and I just can’t seem to get my hands coordinated to type!! It does have a cinnamon/aniseed taste but reminds me a bit of mouthwash and I’m not a big fan of it. ~ GREEN – this is the newest addition to the Aftershock range and is for those who have a Wild Side. I have to admit that it is my least favourite as it looks, smells and tastes like cough medicine – I personally avoid it. ~~~~~~~~~~ Now there are two ...

...the drink itself. Aftershock comes in two flavours. One is Cinnamon flavoured and boasts a shocking red colour. The other is Peppermint flavoured and boasts a sky blue colour.
Both of these have there own unique taste. The Cinnamon type tastes like, as the name suggests, Cinnamon (silly). This was the type that I first had at my friends place. The drink is so different from any other. How many cinnamon flavoured drinks can you find out there today. ... ...the extra spicy taste.
Aftershock must be had as a shooter in order to fully experience the taste, in one gulp. It’s also got to be really cold and over ice. However as with something new and especially something with such a prominent taste, barmen/women the world over rub their hands in glee at the possibilities of concocting awesome new cocktails. Aftershock is no different and after a brief search on the Internet I was startled to find ...

...were only two varieties of Aftershock - Red and Blue. I tried a Blue one. This looks like a Blue mouthwash and smells like a detergent. The taste is chemically, but cold... it's also very sweet. Hard to describe, but an experience! The idea with Aftershock isn't to sip it, but to either down it, which is shocking enough, or to take the whole lot in your mouth and hold it for at least 30 seconds, swirling it round your mouth, then to swallow, inhale ... ...few other concoctions - Blue Aftershock with Sambuca goes down quite well - the Sambuca really adds something to the flavour. Even nicer is Red Aftershock with Sambuca - a sweet, licorice taste with a bite, it's lovely! (Trust me, I'm drinking some now.) A couple of months ago Green Aftershock was released... this is marketed at a 'Thermal Bite' and it's got a Menthol flavour - this is by far the strongest tasting, longest lasting Aftershock, and ...

Advantages: Get Drunk Quick, Large Percentage of Alcohol Disadvantages: Expensive, It Burns
Since its introduction in 1999, Aftershock has been a huge hit with young adults wanting to keep up with the binge drinking culture in the UK, get drunk as quickly as possible at the weekend and stay sober for the rest of the week. Aftershock, made by Jim Beam brands LTD was one of the first to introduce shots onto the market, now we are overrun by them, is this still king of the castle?
Aftershock nowadays in 2006 comes in five different flavours, ... ...Spice (Black) and the new Aftershock Silver with its Electric Taste Sensation. Each has a totally unique flavour, the red one like it suggests on the can has a cinnamon twang mixed with ginger to create a spicy aftertaste, this is my favourite flavour of the first three released. The blue one has a slight blueberry feel to it that is a little horrid, however the aftertaste is refreshing which makes it easier to drink than the green one, although ...

...know, I've only been drinking aftershock since approximately a week ago at 10pm last night, it was a supposedly huge meet up of ciao members, not many turned up, and we needed to turn up the heat a tad didn't we?, so of course I was open to suggestion and a certain member who shall remain nameless suggested that we have an 'aftershock and pepsi' - you know who you are, and I should have a strong dislike for you right now, but srtangely no - in fact ... ...you that don't know what Aftershock is, well kudos to you, for I didn't know it even existed till that fateful Saturday. So its a drink then, how much can you write about a drink?, well I'm going to try anyway.
As some of you may know there are 2 versions of this 'clubbers drink' that you can partake of - red and blue - the red meant to be the 'hot' variety, and the blue the 'cold' - clever no?, well on this night in Newcastle, I was challenged ...
