The Settler (Villager): Basically just used to hunt for food, gather gold and stone and build buildings. Also known as AoE the Age of Empires series consists of 2 games and various expansions. The most modern AoE yet it is set in the colonial age. And features the usual civilian units (to collect resources, build and hunt) and the military units (to fight and skirmish other countries). Plus a lot of new additions to game play such as the 'home city' part and 'treasure' that can be found on maps. The AoE 3 game was welcomed by critics and rated the 71st most popular game, according to the game rankings. The popular 'PC Gamer' magazine rated it at 91% which is very good indeed.

Game Features
AoE 3 has lots of features. For example it contains eight different playable civilizations:
Ottomans: Suleiman the magnificent Germans: Fredrik the Great Russians: Ivan the Terrible Dutch: Maurice or Nassau Portuguese: Henry the Navigator French: Napoleon British: Queen Elizabeth Spanish: Queen Isabelle All playable and each having there own special abilities, and units. Much like its predecessor, AoE 2, it contains special units per civilization. For example British have the unique longbow man. Just like in AoE 2. But unlike AoE 2 the new game 'Age of Empires III' contains the new home city feature which means each civilization also has its own unique ability cards from their home cities. HOME CITYS: A common question from people who don't have the game but have AoE 2 is "What are home cities? It's not on AoE2" Well no because it is a new feature to AoE3. They are towns that you can go to at any time during game play and use cards from there to send shipments of troops, gold, food or stone to your colony. Your home city can be upgraded before and after game play, by adding new buildings and unlocked cards can be added. UNITS: Because of the age difference between of which AoE 2&3 is set there are so many new and different units to be used and explored. The Settler (Villager): Basically just used to hunt for food, gather gold and stone and build buildings. However a very important unit because without them you cannot build and are unable to gather so unable to build buildings or other units. The only way to get settlers is from the town centre. Military units: these range from musketeers to men with clubs. Depending on the barracks and town era you are able to train units to fight for you. Also the stable can train scouts and cavalry units. Plus grenadiers and cannons are available from the workshop. New unit to AoE 3 is the "Explorer": The explorer is responsible for scouting and capturing treasure. Also it can take trading posts. The main feature I think is that an explore has a special attack. EG, swash buckler; which attacks all around the explorer. An explorer can be upgraded with a hound from a special card at the home city and given a balloon to scout with, also by a home city card. Yet another unit are sea units. These are constructed from a dock and they use fire or cannons as weapons.

Campaign: There are three main parts to the single player campaign, 'Blood', 'Ice' and 'Steel'. The first part is about Morgan Black. And defending the last stronghold of Malta, from the Ottoman Empire. The second is about Morgan's grand son 'John Black' on his way to his uncle who sent for help. During act II you play as john blacks mercenaries (basically like the German civilization). The third and final act is about Amelia Black, John blacks granddaughter and heir to the company. Building up to a fight between the French and US armies.
===My AoE 3 Experience=== I got my AoE 3 game for Christmas 06 from amazon.co.uk. The moment I got it I charged up stairs to play it. It took a long time to install due to the large game and the 3 CDs. It worked really well on my new computer at the time and the graphics were amazing. I remember the villager and military units looked way better than the ever did in AoE 2. Also the home city was full of really high quality details and 3D effects. So far so good. However, quite a way into the campaign I hit a major floor in this game I had my first sea battle. I have to say I was very disappointed indeed. The game play slowed and it took up to 30 seconds for the cannon ball to hit an enemy ship. I don't know if it was my computer or what. After discussing this online in forums and with my friends it was happening to them too. Delayed sea battles and slowed movements. Credit the ship units were incredible detailed and looked amazing. But they make the game lag so much. I do not know if they have changed this with an upgrade but it was a real let down. Although that is the only negative in the entire game, all other parts are great. Story line great, gaming great just the sea battles let it down. Also now 3 years later I cannot play AoE 3 on my computer because it is so slow. So it doesn't work on old computers. This is also a let down as now my friend plays it online a lot. When I played it online it was great but a bit laggy and depressing that I was beaten a lot. But really online was just an advanced single player. I got hours of fun out of it.

Age of Empires has always been one of the games for the pc that I have found impressive but now it has taken the next step and become a great game with impressive graphics, sounds, gameplay and every other aspect being beyond just impressive leading to the overall package being amazing.
I purchased this game with the belief that there was no way that this could top what was an extremely impressive game in Age of Empires 2 but Age of Empires 3 has ... ...let me start by saying that yes there is still the unfortunate population limit but with the amazing new presentation standards that this game achieves it is not so noticeable as you are mesmorised by the beautifully rendered trees and the shadows they are casting.
I can't give this game enough praise and had expected problems as I had heard that issues were known with Windows Vista and that the game can run slow but I have not seen any of these ...

Advantages: Historical information, many different civilizations, extremely enjoyable online mode. Disadvantages: Limited enjoyment from offline skirmish mode, shortness of campaigns.

causes a problem as it may or may not appeal to you as an individual but all i can say is it takes very little away from the gameplay as a whole.
The graphics seen on age of empires3 are satisfactory but very dependant on the computer they're seen on. Either way you very rarely tend to notice the detail of the graphics in a strategy game.
If you have your heart set on a good strategy game single player i would sway far away from age of empires 3. The single player is far from enthralling and tends to become repetitive after the first few chapters of the dull, unoriginal storyline. The multiplayer, however, is entertaining, addictive and strangely relaxing in some ways, also the multiplayer service is free, easy to access since it is built into the game and very reliable.
If you wish to purchase this game it is now quite cheap due to it ...

Age of Empires3 is, ironically enough, the third instalment of the highly successful 'Age of Empires' title. Although fans of age of empires 2 had to wait 6 years for the new release, I believe it was worth it. Age of EmpiresIII is a real time strategy game where you play as 1 of 8 major European Civilization as they fight for land and riches on the New World.
The games controls haven't really changed that much from the second one, but even if you are a novice they are easy to pick up with the 'learn to play' mode and a lot of the buildings keep their original functions, however a brand new selection of units have been created due to the usage of gunpowder. Firstly I would like to say that I've played all the games in Age of Empires series and this is by far the best. This game is well worth your money if you enjoy Real Time Strategy games, set during 1500-1800 the game covers of the discovery of America and the fight for the country.

Amazing and stunning graphics for an RTS game. They're so awesome it's unbelievable. The Terrain now actually look like real life terrain.
