Easy to use flatbed scanner
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212p by  AlexDP

Advantages: Simple to use.
Disadvantages: Have to turn it on befor computer.

...I have had the AGFA Snapscan 1212p flatbed scanner for two years now. It was new when I got it. The p (in 1212p) stands for parralle, as it connect to that port on your computer, not use UBS port. This makes it slightly slower when sending signals from your Pc to scanner. The scanner comes with two good programs for scanning, Agfa Foto Look and Agfa Foto Snap. They are both very easy to use, Foto Snap being aimed at the beginer. The scanner can scan just over an A4 piece of paper. I does have one drawback though - you have to turn it on before you turn you computer on or else your computer won't regonise its there. This won't happen if you have a USB version. I would recommend the scanner to a beginer. A expert would find that it doesn't cater for all their needs.... Read review

Excellent quality scanner and software
Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212u by  mandarin

Advantages: Quality of scanned image, Ease of set up, free software updates
Disadvantages: None discovered

...More expensive than your run of the mill scanners but worth every penny. It comes with superb scanning software - Scanwise - and later versions can be freely downloaded from the Agfa site. I often scan glossy laminated products and it copes with the reflective surfaces without problem. Another joy for me is that when I scan old documents I need to keep creases etc intact for authenticity. It handles this fine and I have even been asked how I put the creases in! For me though, the main benefit is the ability to just select a destination program and it's launched with the scanned document ready inserted! I will be buying a flatbed transparency scanner shortly - I'm hoping there is an Agfa to choose from - no need to look elsewhere.... Read review

Review of Agfa SnapScan 1212u by  BTR2

Advantages: USB, Looks good, simple to use
Disadvantages: Yet another product with poor documentation

...The Agfa SnapScan 1212u is a USB flatbed scanner. It is mostly recommended for home use and maybe small business. The first thing you notice when you open the box is the dual Macintosh and Windows 98 support. Nothing mentionned about earlier versions of Windows. This is interesting if you own a PC besides your Mac and need to scan images to use on a PC. Agfa claims that its color capture is 36-bit and reaches over 68 billion colors. Its plate takes up to 600 (horizontal) x 1200 (vertical) in resolution and scans up to 9600 DPI. It ships with ScanWise, the Color It! image editor, and OmniPage LE. The latter is for text recognition, which I don't use very often, but a mate told me it is quite adequate. Installation This scanner is easy to install. First, you plug the USB cable from the scanner to the USB port of the hub. Second, plug... Read review
