I first brought one of these Scanners about 8 months ago. When i opened the box, i was kind of put off by the size of this green thing infront of me then. But since i paid for it i thought i might aswell plug it in and see what i can get out of it.
This was my first scanner, and so i picked out the instruction manual from the box, which came with all the CDs, cables, and eveything else. The manual was actually easy to read with lots of clear diagrams. I found this one of the easiest things to install onto my computer. This was because it's a USB scanner which made it ery easy to install actually. You just plug the cable into the scanner and into the back of your computer and your away. Switch on the computer and it will install everything for you. Well, you place the setup CD into your CD drive and setup is pretty easy. Follow the on screen instructions and in about ten minutes from unpacking the scanner you will have a new scanner.
Ok, so the setting up was easy, but it doesn't mean it was any good. I went and found a range of picture to scan in and one after the other i scanned in, i was surprised. The scanning of the pictures is very easy, a few clicks and it's done. There was a few colour adjusting options, and so if the preview wasn't right then you can adjust the colouring. Many other scanners require you to scan from the software like CorelDraw, Paint shop Pro, but with this AGFA scanner, you scan the picture, and you can save it either to a file or import it to a picture editing software. Pretty handy. I normally scan in the pictures then edit them later.

At the end of the day, this AGFA 1212U is a good buy and i highly recommend it to anyone.

The Agfa SnapScan 1212u is a USB flatbed scanner. It is mostly recommended for home use and maybe small business. The first thing you notice when you open the box is the dual Macintosh and Windows 98 support. Nothing mentionned about earlier versions of Windows. This is interesting if you own a PC besides your Mac and need to scan images to use on a PC. Agfa claims that its color capture is 36-bit and reaches over 68 billion colors. Its plate takes ... ...now the present.
Conclusion
Around the £100 price range, the Agfa SnapScan 1212u gives you great value for money and is in my opinion, the perfect digital imaging companion of its class for any computer equipped with USB ports. It is an excellent scanner, ideal for home use. ...

...scanner..the only thing I can say negative..and its a small negative is to agfa regarding the scanner lid..it just doesnt feel solid enough when lifting,it can move slightly from side to side.but hey..im nit picking.If you want a fast sleek quiet and impressive scanner look no further than the 1212u. ...

I was looking for a good performance, cheap scanner for my student work. I saw a magasine review and it said that the Snapscan 1212u was the best. So I bought it for 70 pounds at my local PC World store. Installation was very simple, and took minutes with the USB connection, however the software has a futureistic look to it that takes a few seconds to get used to. Advantages: Uses USB, easy to set up, good software. Disadvantages: Not quite the quickest.
As a student, I look for value for money so I bought this scanner for £117, once I had got it installed (which was simple) it worked without problems. The translucent blue case looks very stylish, and makes it appear to 'glow' when scanning. The scanning software 'Scanwise' has a good step be step mode for those new to scanning. Using the software you can achieve a maximum interpolated resolution of 9600dpi. It also comes with Omni Page Limited Edition ...

I often scan glossy laminated products and it copes with the reflective surfaces without problem. Another joy for me is that when I scan old documents I need to keep creases etc intact for authenticity. It handles this fine and I have even been asked how I put the creases in!
For me though, the main benefit is the ability to just select a destination program and it's launched with the scanned document ready ...
