After trying Ainsley Harriott's wonderfully flavoursome cous cous, I decided to try out all of his other products that he has in his range. The first one I went for was this Chicken Flavour Rice. I was always a big fan of Bachelors Flavoured Rice so this Ainsley Hariott product was one I was certain I was going to like and I was right!
The rice is around 70 pence per packet and I have seen them for sale in most of the leading supermarkets and a lot of smaller local shops too. The packet contains 120 grams and does state that this is a 2 serving packet although I would say that it would serve two as part of a main meal but I chose to eat all of my packet on my own for a lunch time meal.
The rice is less than 1% fat and this is what also attracted me to product. It actually has 402 calories when you eat the whole packet (as I did) and 2.6 grams of fat (only 1.4 is saturated). This I feel is not bad especially as it fills you up so much. Having this at lunch time meant that I needed nothing else but the rice so not only is it filling and low fat but it is also a very cheap lunch time meal.
Making the rice is pretty easy too. You can either cook it on the hob with water or like I did, add boiling water and blast in the microwave for around 8 minutes. It takes no time really and is well worth the tiny amount of effort.
The packaging of the rice is easy to open and of a good design. The sachet that the rice comes in is made of paper and the top is easily torn off so that the rice can be poured into a cooking jug or pot. The rice to look at has a nice golden colour to it and the smell is slightly that of chicken but it does smell rather tasty.
The rice has lots of bits f what I guess is dried vegetables which when cooked become soft, tasty and give the rice a much nicer look than if they were not included. The taste of the rice is really very nice and one that I enjoyed till the end. I would say the taste is like chicken but not overly strong. The rice and vegetables cook nicely and the flavour seems to stick to every single grain of rice. I found the Chicken rice to be very morish and I probably could have eaten another half a packet(although I am know to be a bit greedy!).
I can honestly rate this product highly and it is another product form the Ainsley Hariott range that is well worth buying. It is a perfect lunch time meal seeing as it is quick to prepare, filling (I was full till dinner), tasty and cheap! All these factors really do make it a five star product!
I do hope this has been of some help to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
