I am writing an opinion about the aiptek pocket dv 11 but as this and the aiptek pocket dv are more or less the same and i could not add the specific product i thought i would do it here
I have recently aquired one of the dv 11 from america and it arrived safely but i would warn anyone who gets it shipped over there is a £40.00 surcharge when it gets here for vat so whatever the price is in us dollars add $60.00 to it and this will be payable before they hand over the package
The camcorder and all the software cost $149 plus $36 for shipping and $50 for the smart card which was quite cheap £153 but then you add the $60.00 as well and it cost £193 which is still a reasonable price with all that is on offer
right the dv 11
this is a camcorder,digital camera,voice recorder and a webcam all in one
The dv11 fits into the palm of your hand and is quite light weight. It runs on batteries 2 aa and you have to be careful as if the batteries run out you loose all data stored on the hard disk inside and it does not have a normal mains connector lead and cannot support one
The hard disk is a 16 mb built in sd ram but it will only allow you to use 6mb of this to store your live camcorder or pictures on as the rest is used for hardware info
so converted to time allowed for recording using the camcorder is as follows
1.5 mins record time for the camcorder
the amount of pics you can take depend on the size of the pixels and the quality of the pics as well if you take the least resolution (640 x 480)pixels and normal quality you can take 100 and for the best quality (1600 x 1200) pixels and high quality 10 pictures can be taken
you can also record 20 mins of audio only
The dv11 comes with the cabaility of accepting what is called a smart card which is basically an external memory and these come in the form of a little chip card these come in denominations from 16mb 32mb 64mb and higher i have just bought a 128mb card and this allows me an extra 30 mins of record time the prices of these vary from $25 for the 16mb (£15.91) 64mb $35 (22.28) 128mb (£31.83) 256mb $90 (£57.29) $125 for the 512mb (£79.57) but the higher the mb the more record time you get
The card is supplied seperatly
The good thing about the smart cards is that you dont have to have one model there is several on the market and if you need to just go to the computer store and ask what is acceptable
The dv11 comes with a bundle of software for the computer which allows you to do video confrencing, live e mail, download your pictures and put them into the gallery so you can enhance them and you can make your own movies
the software bundle is easy to install and easy to use as it helps you with what you want to do also the registration of the product,smart card and software is easy as you can do all this online
you also get your usb port lead and the a v out lead for the tv
You can down load everything that you record onto the pc or you can use the tv to view what you have recorded
The lcd screen on the flip out part is small but the picture is good and the best way to view it is with the back light on not off
you have a playback function and there is a menu function on there as well this is accessed by a roll key that you press in and then roll down or up
this menu allows you to change the resolution,delete what you have recorded choose what you want to use the camcorder as (camera ect)
all in all this is not a bad little camcorder and it is very small and compact so can fit easily into a pocket or a bag
if you are looking for a traditional camcorder then this is not for you so would only recomend this to someone who wants a few products in one and not just the camcorder
but all in all not a bad buy at all and just what i was looking for
