Review of Amcor PLM15000E AIR COND/Cleaner/Combi by mutleyeng

Advantages: it works, B rated efficiency
Disadvantages: a little noisey

recently bought this unit mainly for my lounge. it has a true BU rating of 11300, more than adequate for my 16x12ft NE facing room (late afternoon sun). Just a couple of points following on from other reviews. Yes, it is heavy, but really not so heavy as to be worried about. I managed to get the unit up a steep flight of stairs on my own, albeit just one step at a time. It is liftable for an average build male. As with all mobile air cons, it ...
...exceeding the design spec. In this units case it comes with a 2meter x150mm hose. I have mine in a corner, next to a window which only has a top opening. The hose fits at the back of the unit, but even so mine pretty much still sits in the corner with the hose attached. I confess to a liberal interpretation to the 500mm clearance at the back of the unit as there are no vents to the rear, but the left side (looking at front) is where the vents are. ... Read review

From hot and bothered to cool and calm
Review of Convair Magicool by ultracoolgiovanni

Advantages: cools instantaneously, uses less than 100W power, cools a large area, durable, very quiet
Disadvantages: initial purchase price although now much cheaper

...this case and ordered the Convair Magicool air conditioning unit without doing any real comparison in the spring of 2006. At that time it cost 295 Euros (approximately £200) but I have no seen them advertised for lower prices, the cheapest being 220 Euros (approximately £155). The air conditioning unit when it arrived required assembling. The box contained: The unit casing measuring 76cm in height, 43.5cm wide and 31.5cm deep. A fan A water reservoir ...
...The initial outlay on the Convair Magicool unit was a little excessive in my view and the fact that it has decreased so much in price over such a short space of time has left me a little bit vocal about the rush to purchase, however for the results it has produced it is nothing short of a life saving device, even in a area much larger than it is allegedly suitable for. As the temperatures start to become unbearable again this year we have dusted ... Read review

The cool place to be
Review of Challenge AIR Cooler by havanna

Advantages: effective room cooler
Disadvantages: may be a bit big if you only have smaller rooms

Challenge Air Cooler. I brought this in the heat of the summer but still find it useful on cooler nights, It's an evaporative cooler this means you fill the unit's tray with water and it uses a rotating cloth pad that goes infront of the fan unit and blows the water/air mix producing a cooler air temperature. The unit holds 8 litres of water and is supplied with 2 ice packs. You can place these in the freezer cool them and drop them into the tank ...
...for longer. The remote control is simple off / on speed control ioniser oscillation Batteries are included in the pack. The unit has a timer function of 1 , 2 , 4 hrs in any combination. With a built in Ioniser it purifies the air also through the cloth like filter that you wash by simply taking off the rollers and scrubbing with hot soapy water, I also spray the cloth with dettol to kill any bacteria that i can't see before leaving to dry and ... How to chill
Review of B&Q AIR Cooler 3SPEED FAN/ICE CUBE/R-Co by Brighty64

Advantages: It works.
Disadvantages: Cost of running.

I was lucky enough to be given one of these air conditioners. It's a great little piece of kit which you can move about very easily, even when full of water. Probably the worst thing about it is trying to fill it with water the first time around. The little box that you have to fill doesn't take that much water, and it does take a long time to drain in to the main tank, so that part did take a long time to do. But... when you are all set, boy this ...
...my lounge, and with the way the British summer is going at the moment, I'm using it quite a lot. Not sure what effect it is having on my electric bill, so will have to wait and see about that. Like the different things that it can do to. The chilling effect is great, and the 120 degree movement means that you don't have to be sat in a draft all the time. As it swings around, it feels good to be sat there. ... Read review

Hinari 12000BTU Air Con unit from Focus DIY
Review of Hinari 12000BTU 4IN1 by equaliser

Advantages: Quiet (with mod), removable water tank, air direction control, cheap
Disadvantages: Water tank could do with being bigger (I'm being picky here!)

...between the Focus 12000 BTU Hinari unit and the 14000 BTU unit I'd seen in a B&Q catalogue (NOT the split unit as seen on their website) and luckily I managed to test both of them so here is my review/comparison. Cooling:- The B&Q unit is rated at 14000 BTU's vs the Hinari unit which is rated at 12000 BTU's. From what I could feel in the store I'd say the B&Q unit does feel slightly cooler but not by a huge amount. In an average sized room I'd ...
...For reference, the Hinari cooled a 9sqm office I was working in from 30c to 25.2c in around an hour and also drastically reduced the humidity. This made the office competely bearable again. Noise:- The Hinari unit is rated at 52db vs 59db for the B&Q unit and I'd agree that these seem about right. HOWEVER, when I first got the Hinari it was much louder than it should be as the plastic casing was rattling against the A/C radiator near the bottom. ... Read review
