The VX-G143 is a 14-inch TV and video combo; it comes in a stylish Metallic Grey finish with easy to use buttons for the TV and Video functions. For A/V connections there is 1 SCART input and aerial socket on the back of the set with A/V sockets for connecting to a camcorder and headphones socket on the front. However there are no audio outputs so if you are stuck you can use the headphones socket but this does not substitute for a proper set of line out sockets. The sound on the set itself is not brilliant and lacks depth and bass making the sound very tinny.

Picture quality is reasonable, and video play back supports both PAL and NTSC. The menus are easy enough to use to control all the functions like adjusting picture, signal tuning, volume and also setting the pin-code to make the TV semi secure. The video features 2-speed rewind and fast-forward and a button to switch from TV-Monitor without recording to a different channel when flicking over, this could prove embarrassing if you are not paying attention.

I find the set odd in the way it has a power on/off button and a standby on/off button, when using the remote you have to press the power button to turn the TV standby mode to on or off. This is silly as I normally turn on the set by pressing a channel on most TV’s remotes and the AIWA is very eccentric when it comes to this.

In all it shows that the AIWA VX-G143 is a budget TV, so if this is just for the bedroom or kitchen it will do fine.
