I decided to buy a DVD player around 2 months ago as my friends all had one or had a PS2 which plays them. My VCR is in a pretty bad shape now as I've had it for nearly 13 years. Now that I have seen the options and quality that a DVD offers, I don't think I'll get a new VCR.

The main bad point about any DVD player is that you can't record stuff. I can't really say that because with time this will be corrected but I don't see that happening soon at a price I could afford. I think you can record DVD's just now with the really expensive ones or a computer but the quality is poor and you can't put more than a hour and a half on them. So I bought one now.

I had to things that I wanted my DVD player to have when I set out to look for one. The two preferences I had were that the DVD player had to be able to play MP3's and an optical output so I could transfer them to my MP3 player.

The Aiwa XD-DV370 does both but with an added bonous. It playes VCD's aswell but I am pretty sure that you can't get them here but I have quite a few that I bought for my PC. I have only seen them in the Asian market and only in CD-R in other places.

I've heard other unlucky people have had problems with other particular models of DVD players. They said that the special features menu olny avaliable to DVD's didn't show up. I have had no problems with this model and it is great.

There was only one part that I found more complicated than the rest. The was the menu system for playing MP3's. I found it quite hard at first to create a playlist instead of selecting one song each time but with a little time and practise, it isn't a problem any more.

Now that I have found out that DVD offer brilliant quality for their prices (well most of them), I don't think I will ever buy another video tape if I can avoid it.

Now that I have bought this brilliant piece of equipment, I have found myself in a rather financially challenging problem. In order to make full use of my DVD player, I feel like I have to buy a good digitial surround sound speaker system compatiable with my DVD player and a new widescreen TV to enjoy the perfect quality that DVD offers.
