Advantages: Non-conducting, easily applicable, very good cooling Disadvantages: tube is rather small, for approx 10 applications
...much pressure (i.e. the holding clip or screw pressure).
Akasa claims that it can be used in a temperature range of -20 to 120 degrees Celsius.
I wanted to try the effect of this paste on my 8800 GTX cooler, so I took the card apart (voids the warranty) and removed the existing thermal pad with Akasa TIM Remover (Citrus-based solvent).
After the 8800 chip was cleaned up, I applied this paste in a zig zag pattern, evenly covering the chip and then putting the heatsink back on. After moving the cooler in a circular direction to force the air out, I fastened back the screws.
Booting up the PC and starting the NVIDIA Monitor, the idle temperature of the GPU was 69 degrees, compared to 76 degrees before. When running Supreme Commander, this temperature went up to 82 degrees, compared to around 86 before.
Since the Zalman fan on my CPU...

Advantages: Keeps your CPU cool as ICE Disadvantages: Expensive, difficult to fit for a newbie
...Heat sinks for those of you who don't know use air flow and heat conduction to take heat away from the CPU in the PC to prevent it overheating.
Basic specs:
The Alaska Silver Mountain is a silver plated copper heatsink designed for Socket A Athlon CPU's. I bought mine because of a recommendation from a fellow techy who believed it was the best Heat Sink he'd ever worked with.
Basic specs:
Supports AMD Athlon XP 3200+; Pure Copper Heatsink with Silver Plating; Sanyo Denki Ball Bearing Fan; Fan Rated Speed 4, 600 R.P.M.; Fan Air Flow 23 CFM; Fan Noise 33 dB(A); DIM 72 X 60 X 65 mm.
I got mine for £25 which is steep when £7 can buy an adequate heat sink. I don't really know what made me pay that much as I wasn't interested in clocking up the CPU I had (which requires a good heat sink).
The heat sink kept my CPU XP1900 below 30c...

...Excellent motherboard. This is the first motherboard that I have installed in a computer before, and did ASUS make it easy for me!
The manual is very clear, and tells you where everything is. All the connectors matched up with my Akasa Zen Case connectors, which I thought was great, as since then I didn't have the same experience with a Thermaltake case.
The silent heatpipe, makes this a very quiet motherboard, whereas most normal motherboards would have a rubbish little fan that gets clogged with dust and ends up making a terrible noise. If you need to have a fan on the chipset heatsink, asus provide a fan that slots on to the top of the heatsink.
Aswell as the chipset fan, ASUS provide loads of other stuff. This includes USB expansion, firewire expansion, SATA cables, and more! Great if you need any of this stuff.
Overall I think...
