Akasa Serial ATA internal to external cable

Advantages: Sturdy. Good Quality.
Disadvantages: Compatible with SecureConnect hard drives only.

...I recently bought one of these cables to connect my hard drive (also WD – Western Digital) to my motherboard. I had never used SATA before and was only familiar with IDE cables – the annoying thick ones that are a pain to connect. Unlike IDE cables, SATA leads can only be plugged in one way at both ends. This cable holds the power connection stable too. This cable can only really be used on Western Digital hard drives, but they are a leading manufacture and highly recommended. Both WD Raptor and WD Caviar SE Serial ATA drives use this unique connection, but there are also other SecureConnect compatible hard drives out there. The main reason you would buy this rather than any old SATA cable is because of its SecureConnect design which holds it in place nice and tight. ...-----| Reason for purchase |----- I had just bought two Maxtor Maxline III 250GB drives and needed some SATA cables to attach them to my computer. These were very reasonably priced, i think somewhere around £1 - 2 which was cheaper than a normal non UV reactive cable. No brainer to buy these over the others. -----| Length 45 cm |----- For my midi case (Thermaltake Tsunami Dream) these were more than long enough, as the hard drive bay is right next to the SATA ports on my motherboard (Abit KV8 MAX3). Even if your hard drives were near opposite ends of the case this length of cable would be satisfactory. If you have a server case of a particularly large midi case (my Thermaltake is one of the biggest so this is more for the server case people) you may want to buy the 60 cm or 100 cm versions of this product. -----| Glow |----- Ok... ....1 sound.. There is also a red MSI round cable and serial ATA cables provided. Onboard this motherboard is: mouse port keyboard port serial port parallel port 4x USB 2.0 LAN port. 2.1 sound (NO ONBOARD GRAPHICS). WINDVD Is also supplied on CD. This board is very easy to set up and even after I lost the driver cd, the drivers were very easily downloaded from the MSI website. This really is a superb and unfaultable board. It is also highly and easily upgradable. It still has everything that I need for the future.... Read review
