Advantages: excellent torque and performance and excellent chassis Disadvantages: riding position can be a strain after a fir bit of miles on a trip
...I have owned my 636 since it first came out.
I have found the sharp response of the chassis when cornering to be close to perfect. I have ridden an R6 and also ridden with R6's on rideouts and I would say the 636 (2003 model to present) has the edge on corners. I would say the R6 wins on comfort (easier forgiving seat) and also riding position. I did feel the strain after around 70 - 100 miles on the bike on some trips. That however is due to the race nature of the bike. The riding position is one of which was designed more for a racetrack.
I have many good rideouts on my 6r and find that when I let a rideout 'friend' take the bike for a spin; they always come back with a smiling face and praise the bike then-on.
I have attached a 'slip-on' Akrapovic aftermarket exhaust on it now and the sound is one which will make you speechless...

Advantages: Brand appeal, good suspension, low seat Disadvantages: Low tank range, vibration, no fairing
..., but that's not what this bike is about, the 1200S give you the opportunity to actually enjoy twisty roads, and nip through traffic, problems associated with the bigger Harleys in many reviews.
With the Screaming Eagle air filter kit, Dynojet, and exhausts fitted the bike started to sound like a Harley should, and brought out a grin when pulling away and opening it up to overtake, I actually began to will the traffic lights to turn red so as to be able to enjoy the sound of the engine.
The 1200 is pretty much the same dimensions as the 883s, but with a substantial increase in available power and should be considered if trying out an 883, don't be overwhelmed with the thought of a 1200 engine, it's not big at all if you look at Harleys past and present.
The tank will give you around 150 mile range, and that's including reserve, the way you ride...

...hardly walk!
My intro to the K1200's was with a K1200LT (but that's another story). I thought it had a great engine but it was just a bit too heavy and wide for my daily commute. This experience led me to buy a K1200RS SE. I used this for work and touring and covered about 12,000 miles in a year on it.
I went down to Rome on it and got back from there to Hertford in just 24 hours. I'm telling you when you let these bikes loose on the open autoroutes they fly and they're comfy. You can hold a steady 120mph for about 90 minutes, after which you'll need fuel.
The 21 litre tank will average 43mpg (even when pushed hard).
I part exed the K1200RS for a K1200GT last year. I wanted the more upright position and the better weather protection. Additionally I got the matching luggage, cruise control and heated grips and seat.
The cruise control...

After 6 months of using Ubuntu on my laptop (Travelmate 220 - painful, I know), I decided a few days ago to change. One because I felt like it, and two the laptop really needed a cleanup. I dd a little bit of research, and narrowed it down to Fedora Core more
