Akrapovic Bolt-on / Slip-on line Open Exhaust - Honda VFR 800 FI

Advantages: excellent torque and performance and excellent chassis
Disadvantages: riding position can be a strain after a fir bit of miles on a trip

In fact my dad rides a Suzuki GSXR-1000 K2 and he went out and bought an Akrapovic straight after he heard the difference between the stock exhaust on mine and then the aftermarket Akrapovic exhaust... Since I have bought my Kawasaki I have added a steering dampener, braided front back brake lines, Akrapovic Exhaust, smaller number plate and smaller indicators. I am EXTREMELY HAPPY with this bike and feel I definatly made the right choice over all the other 600 on the market. ...How did Honda do it? Back in 1986 when the VFR750 was first introduced Honda was on the slippery slope to motorcycle oblivion. They had proved to one and all that they couldn't make a reliable V4 engine. The early eighties V4 engined models, the VF500 and VF750, both blew up if ridden hard, and wore cam chains out at an alarming rate regardless Honda's in line four cylinder bikes were failing in comparison to faster rivals from Suzuki, and more reliable bikes from Kawasaki. The smaller bikes in the range were dying a death too, Yamaha and new Italian manufacturers taking over Honda's bread and butter market with aplomb. In short the big H's motorcycle arm was in big trouble. Then along came the VFR 750 and everything changed. ...Acquired this aged and classy machine but a month ago. Its a VFR F of 1989 with braided hoses, 4 into one stainless can and scotoiler, with 39K. It's so well made it feels lots younger. Advantages, smooth power delivery, lovely hydraulic clutch, neutral safe handling and a beguilingly ordinairy image. Torquey engine piles on the power wherever its needed for effortless overtaking. It's rather quiet but with an appealing exhaust burble and the cam gear whine is like no other bike around. For interest and sheer class for its age its hard to beat. It gets interested glances, but since it moves like a stealth bomber these are of necessity somewhat short lived. Yet to get the pegs down really...buy one if you can!... Read review
