Advantages: excellent torque and performance and excellent chassis Disadvantages: riding position can be a strain after a fir bit of miles on a trip
...I have owned my 636 since it first came out.
I have found the sharp response of the chassis when cornering to be close to perfect. I have ridden an R6 and also ridden with R6's on rideouts and I would say the 636 (2003 model to present) has the edge on corners. I would say the R6 wins on comfort (easier forgiving seat) and also riding position. I did feel the strain after around 70 - 100 miles on the bike on some trips. That however is due to the race nature of the bike. The riding position is one of which was designed more for a racetrack.
I have many good rideouts on my 6r and find that when I let a rideout 'friend' take the bike for a spin; they always come back with a smiling face and praise the bike then-on.
I have attached a 'slip-on' Akrapovic aftermarket exhaust on it now and the sound is one which will make you speechless...

Advantages: Powerful, fast, good looks Disadvantages: heavy, long reach and long legs required
...the first exit and decided to open the ZX up. The acceleration was mind blowing. Up to 4000 rpm the engine pulled. From 4000 rpm to 10,000 rpm it pulled like a freight train, and there were still around 3,500 rpm till the red line! The engine sung, the exhaust note changed and the wind noise became almost unbearable.
1st, 2nd, 3rd and I looked at the speedo - how fast?!? and I had hardly noticed. This is one fast, licence losing machine that demanded respect. I eased on the brakes. One finger on the lever and the front end nose dived scrubbing off the speed almost as quickly as it has produced it. This was a true sports bike, despite it's massive size.
I turned off the main road down a twisty back road that was recommended by the bloke in the shop. The zx was effortless to ride. It was very flickable through every bend. It changed from left...

...getting serious from 5000rpm right up to the 15000 red line, which sounds amazing.however, riding in the city is very easy because of the good bottom end and midrange power.my only complaint is changing gears at these low speeds, the 6 speed box feels a bit notchy and needs a bit more effort from the left boot for smooth changes.this disappears when the revs rise and the gearbox feels slick and smooth. the riding position is fairly aggressive with a lot of weight on the wrists, and does become a little uncomfortable after a couple of hours. slow speed riding is good and the bike is easy to handle [ im 5"7 and 65 kg] so as you can see i am very pleased with the zx636r, it is difficult to find any faults with it. i have recently installed a staintune after market exhaust and im annoying the shit out of the neighbors but it sounds GREAT!!!...
