Advantages: excellent torque and performance and excellent chassis Disadvantages: riding position can be a strain after a fir bit of miles on a trip
...I have owned my 636 since it first came out.
I have found the sharp response of the chassis when cornering to be close to perfect. I have ridden an R6 and also ridden with R6's on rideouts and I would say the 636 (2003 model to present) has the edge on corners. I would say the R6 wins on comfort (easier forgiving seat) and also riding position. I did feel the strain after around 70 - 100 miles on the bike on some trips. That however is due to the race nature of the bike. The riding position is one of which was designed more for a racetrack.
I have many good rideouts on my 6r and find that when I let a rideout 'friend' take the bike for a spin; they always come back with a smiling face and praise the bike then-on.
I have attached a 'slip-on' Akrapovic aftermarket exhaust on it now and the sound is one which will make you speechless...

Advantages: That off road on road look Disadvantages: Probably the most nickable 125 out there
...I passed my 33bhp test a while ago on a DTR, had a good look around for a bike to suit me. I'm still looking. The DTR is perfect for taller people. I'm 6 foot and it's perfect size, 5' 9'' and below and you're be looking to lower the suspension. The insurance is very low (on saying that I'm waiting on my new premium, cos I've had two DTR's pinched in the last 8 months).
The ride is good except the seat could do with another layer of lining in it (take note Yamaha).
Disc's on front and rear make it good on breaking, and because you sit up on it, you see a lot more of what's happening in front of you.
Fuel consumption is fair, I get 120 miles out of a tank and roughly cost £6.50 to fill.
Now I've passed my test the old exhaust has gone, Mr DEP has arrived and Mr Powervalve has been tweaked. I get about 20mph more speed out of it...

Advantages: Bullet proof 2-stroke engine stands the test of time Disadvantages: Very minor problems, such as plastics scratch a little too easy
...and screaming sound, even at factory condition they can rev up to about nine and a half thousand rpm so i am told! If you were deciding to upgrade your banshee then a good step would be to consider some aftermarket exhaust pipes and a fuel mixture change to suit. My personal favourite set up is a set of Toomey T5 exhausts with 34mm Mikuni carbs and a 310 main jet to be on the safe side with engine temperatures.
The frame is of mild steel contrustion and of a good solid design, my banshee is 13 years old, having many of those years out on the race track and the frame is still in reasonable condition. This is a credit to Yamaha's original design and as long as the machine has been looked after reasonable, this should not cause too much concern for a potential buyer of a second hand Banshee.
The suspension set up it reasonable as standard and after...
