Advantages: excellent torque and performance and excellent chassis
Disadvantages: riding position can be a strain after a fir bit of miles on a trip

...I have owned my 636 since it first came out. I have found the sharp response of the chassis when cornering to be close to perfect. I have ridden an R6 and also ridden with R6's on rideouts and I would say the 636 (2003 model to present) has the edge on corners. I would say the R6 wins on comfort (easier forgiving seat) and also riding position. I did feel the strain after around 70 - 100 miles on the bike on some trips. That however is due to the race nature of the bike. The riding position is one of which was designed more for a racetrack. I have many good rideouts on my 6r and find that when I let a rideout 'friend' take the bike for a spin; they always come back with a smiling face and praise the bike then-on. Advantages: Reliable, Good Fuel Consumption, Work Horse.
Disadvantages: Heavy, Slightly High on the Suspension, Price of Spares.

...Since I have been riding motorbikes since the early 70s. Only fair I put my review in. Now on my second Adventurer. Due to the first one being Stolen. The BMW R1150GS in line with it's predecessors has longer travel suspension, a 30-litre tank combination tyres and other modifications which sharpen its off-road focus although it being on the heavy side. It includes lower first and sixth gear ratios, and luggage options which allow clip on / off panniers. The spring pre-load adjustment for the front suspension is easy to reach but requires a c-spanner. There's an external adjuster for loading the rear spring which can be operated by hand. A long-handled screwdriver is required to adjust rear suspension damping but the adjuster is easy to reach. But the disadvantage point of that it sits slightly high on the road. ...So the new 1150 RT is out, with many similarities but some big differences to the 1100. I've got a 2000 RT and have tested the 1150 and confess to being impressed, but not overly. Not enough to warrant a trade in for sure! The 1100 is a great bike and should not be under-estimated. It certainly keeps up well enough with the sporty 600s upto 110mph and is guaranteed to leave you feeling less ruffled, dryer, warmer and a lot more smug than the sports bike riders. Personally, I prefer the looks and characters of the BMW brigade, so the Honda Pan European wasn't an option. If it was, that would be a difficult choice! So what about the 1150? Waiting lists are long and dealerships are really busy at the moment - is it worth the wait? I have to say no! Sure the new linked brakes offer fantastic stopping power (touch the rear brake pedal...
