...fractures, which allows access by micro-organisms and oxygen, and which will in turn accelerate the composting process. Giving the compost a turn from time to time completes the process and you will soon become the proud owner of one of nature’s greatest gifts.
The easiest way to shred or break up your garden material is by using a “shredder”. Once the domain of the professional gardener, manufacturers have designed much smaller machines for the average garden. The design of these has improved over the years, and there is now a selection of fine models on the market.
I am now onto my second shredder, the first having gone to that great compost heap in the sky after 10 years of faithful service. It was an AL-KO 1100S shredder and really deserved a review all to itself but as more modern machines have superseded it, and it is no longer...

...Focus DIY in Bishops Stortford is excellent.
It does all the usual DIY stuff - paint, tools, wood, building materials etc. It also has a pet department where you can purchase small pets, food, bedding, litter and other pet items. This department is good as you can often buy stuff in bulk, tehrefore making a saving.
However the best bit about this Focus is the craft department - it's huge! You can buy stuff for every hobby imagineable. knitting, quilling, silk painting, stencilling, glss painting, claywork, embroidery - I have yet to find a hobby for which it does not cater!
It's one of those great places where if you're an arty/crafty bod you just want to have a good mooch around and end up buying something new to get you into an exciting hobby you've never tried before....

A recent "make over" has improved the over-all image of the magazine, with no loss of usefullness, although only a little gain.
The only thing that I would complain about is the apparently large amount of information on Marine fish and Cichlids, which I currently do not keep, and do not plan to in the future. This would appeal to some, and does mean that, as there is plenty of information/subjects on Tropical, Coldwater and Pond fish, this magazine will cover every aspect of the fishkeeping hobby.
The extensive range covered by PFK includes: Monthly special features (July's was Gill Power, a look...
